Weidmannsheil question

I recently aquired an older stag Weidmannsheil folder with a trick lock. (press small wharcliffe blade to unlock main blade)

I'd swear the main blade appears to be differetially heat treated. There is a faint but distinct transition in blade finish on both sides of the blade, in the exact same location that starts at the tang and runs up through the nail nick.

Does anyone know if they differentially treated their blades?

Thanks!

No, I do not believe they ever did. It could be bad heat treat, or it could be that the balde was sharpened on a wheel and the blade was left too long in one place. What colors are you seeing?

Is there really any such thing as an old Weidmannsheil folder, or was it just marketed as such?

No colors. It looks just like a high polished, differentially treated blade. The difference in finish is just barely noticeable with the "non-hardened" portion polishing out slightly darker and in the exact same places on both sides of the blade.

Can't shoot a picture of it because it's so minute.

I don't know much about them but my understanding is they went out of business in the early 90's.

I bought the knife because I liked the lock, fit and finish is excellent and it's a cool design.

I was not given a date as to when this one was "made".

No, it's too fine of a difference to catch on film. When I finish moving and unpacking, then get my office set back up I could try and scan it to see if I can show the difference.

Yes, you just don't much of the old stuff in the States, all the old stuff is very German in style.
The brand is actually pretty old.
