A forum member was curious about the weight of the stone handled knives.

Since I had a nice scale handy I took the following readings to give everyone an idea.

2005 stock factory wood handled 110 - 209g
Buck 560 w/DM blade - 137g
Jasper custom 110 w/NS bolsters and DM blade - 226g
Lapis custom 110 - 231g

So, not really that much heavier than the stock 110. In my hand I feel little difference in any of them except the 560 which is much ligher than any of them of course.

Need to weigh a Buck Lite for comparison if I remember to do so.

If you look at my knives you will see that I do a "swell" in the scale for a better feel in the palm of your hand. If I do a thin nearly flat cut - the weight difference is about 1/2 ounce.

Some weight is saved as I smooth the bolsters much more than the factory ones and I usually take a tiny bit off the spine and blade in sanding and polishing them.

So, being concerned/curious about the weight, does that mean someone is carrying/using these beautiful stone handled knives?

I may carry the lapis, haven't decided yet. I can only assume that others carry them but don't know for sure.

There a purpose for everything. I would not hesitate to give a jade handle knife to a friend who would only use it to pick flowers in her garden.

I beleive that about 30 of my knives are bieng carried and used. Two 110's were bought for EDC.

I would carry one. I had the lapis done for that reason.

Trust me, I'm a professional:D

Really though, for me, it's being able to put a slab of stone onto a knife that means something to you. One could do it with wood but I think that's harder to do than with stone which is why I went with it.

I've wanted to have wood handles put on blades over the years but that was harder to do than this and would have likely resulted in a bad end.

I'm really suprised that there isnt a bigger and significant wt difference.

I would carry one edc light duty for sure-cant leave those in the display and wait for someone to see-gotta show it off:thumbup:
