Hello All,

Does anyone know the weight of the grivory and micarta scales for the BK5? I am thinking of getting the micarta but I'm curious about the weight differences.

Thanks for any help!

I don't have a scale to check them, probably about double the weight of the grivory. I was worried it would change the balance of my 9, but it hardly made a difference. That warm micarta feel is worth every ounce.

Yeah I put the kabar micarta scales on my old Camillus BK-5 and it made the balance *perfect*.

The Grivery weigh 918 grains as a pair and the Micarta weigh 1398 grains as a pair on my digital grain scale.. The Micarta in my opinion make the knife balance better. It is so verly slighty butt heavy with a para cord lanyard. Not enough to feel, but if you balance it on your finger at the first screw/nut just behind the choil. Of course mine is stripped so that reduces the blade weight a little too, not much but....

imho, which isn't often so much...

the grivory makes it a better weight forward chopper

the micarta makes it more weight back, and it lives in my kitchen that way :)

Nice, guys. Thanks for the info. I have been thinking about this more and think I'll probably stay with the grivory. The balance is fine the way it is and I prefer to have a little more forward weight that more handle weight. Also, the $40 I would spend on Micarta will instead go into the safe for a BK9 or maybe even be saved for the BK10 when it goes back into production...
