Weight of a 21 without pocket clip or lanyard pin

I finally have my new Sebenza 21 (dob Nov. 17 2014), which I got from a guy who hand picked it from a retailer. Basically new condition with no QC flaws whatsoever. Only folding knife I own, or will ever own in the future. Perfection. I removed the pocket clip and the lanyard pin to make it as thin and light as possible. Does this have any effect on the weight? Does anyone know how much it weighs when stripped down to the bare basics? I don't have a scale. Thanks.

I had my clip off, but when adding the cover that hides the hole, I'd say that is a moot point. Lanyard and pin...have no idea. IMHO, unless you are on a NASA mission, the weigh difference will be negligible. The clip, being titanium is incredibly light. I would say that the lanyard alone probably weighs as much as the clip, screw and pin together.

Just curious.....Why the question about weight savings?

I don't have the replacement cover. Just took out the pin and the clip. My knife is only a blade, two slabs,
2 washers, six screws, and 3 bushings. I'm just curious about wether there is any weight difference at all, in real terms. Probably not. I don't have a precision scale and was curious about the difference. I really like the lightness and slimness of the 21, as opposed to my 25 that I once had (which I disliked for all the reasons that make the 21 perfect IMHO).

I don't know your answer, but if I remember right someone did do a thread where they weighed every part. You may want to try a search, if you don't get an answer here. It's not going to be much. To really lighten them up go with a CF scale-it is worth about an Oz.

I am in Canada, and even if they were not out of stock, a CF 21 would cost me $650 Canadian dollars, and that is driving across the border and using a US mail delivery service (to avoid international shipping fees). Thanks to our good friends in Saudi Arabia who started a oil price war, not to mention you guys with your damn fracking which raises the supply of oil 😉, our petrodollar is worth 78 cents US (after Paypal gouge). This time 2 years ago it was at par. I got my like new condition 21 in Canada from a guy on a forum for $425 canadian. I can't afford a carbon fiber, plus I don't care for the look. Thanks for your replies.

Just remembered I had spare parts
The clip to a small weighs 2 grams
The lanyard pin(no lanyard) is under a gram-doesn't register on my scale
Together they are still 2 grams
My scale registers in gram increments

Did you weigh the screw as well, since it will be missing as well?

yes-nothing detectable by itself, and same weight with clip

I don't have a lanyard cord to weigh( mine is missing), but may in a few days-I have a couple knives coming in and they will most likely have them.

I am just curious about it. But thanks for letting me know what should or shouldn't matter to me.

I'm not, just wondering why the weight of each item is such a big deal. Your statement that you're just curious answers that.

I removed the clip and the lanyard pin from my Small CF Sebenza. Before I did that, the knife weighed 2.2 ounces. When I was done, the knife weighed 2.2 ounces. Hope that helps. :)

Sorry, it seemed like you were getting on my case for having the whole discussion in the first place. Apologies.

Weight is a big deal for me. I never use pocket clips. Instead, I carry all of my knives deep in my pocket. My weight limit is around 4 ounces, but I prefer knives that weigh 3 ounces or less. I've never found that removing a pocket clip has made a noticeable difference in how heavy a knife carries. It's made a noticeable difference in how comfortably the knife sits in my pocket, however. I always carry my folders in my left front pocket with the blade spine down. That way there's practically no chance that they'll open accidentally. With a right hand setup, carrying them that way positions the clip against my leg. Needless to say, leaving the clip on the knife using my preferred carry method can get uncomfortable in a hurry, so the clips have to go.

Years ago when I was racing bicycles in the hills, we used to get pretty carried away with weight reduction.

I have never seen anyone really pursue drillium handles for a Sebenza and track the weight reduction, but I bet someone has done it.

Those Mayo Sebbies have a bunch of holes in them. I assumed that was both a weight/style thing.

I find the Large to be just a little heavy for my method of carry(front cargo pocket cargo shorts), but just a little and it carries it's weight well. I have thought about doing a hole patterned scale to reduce the weight slightly(having custom makers do this on their knives for me). I just have never had the balls to do it to it's only ti scale. If I every find a ti scale for sale I will try it. In the meantime I have a hole patterned G10 scale that greatly reduces the weight. It hasn't been used in awhile but I have 2 21's coming in so 1 will get the G10 scale and one stay as it was intended.
