Weight of micarta vs grivory scales? (Updated with weight info!)

I have a RSK 2 in the mail and I am thinking if the micarta scales are heavier I might be able to ditch the weights and still be balanced.

keep in mind there are at least 3 major styles of "black" handles (Estaloc, Camillus, and KaBar varieties)

there are also two kinds of micarta (Camillus, and KaBar)...

gunna need a table :)

The Micarta is gonna be heavier because of all the resin in them, also they are not hollow. I've made 5 or 6 batches of the stuff and even changing resins will alter the weight and feel of the grips.

On the topic of the Grivory, I like the camillus Grivory better for it's grippiness. I've had my BK 9 slip out of my hand while hacking at some brush, machete style.

I received my Ritter/Becker RSK2 today and I busted out the scale to get a definitive answer:

The grivory supplied scales weigh 75g

The accessory Micarta BK77 scales weigh 88g

The balance weights are 3.5g each for a total of 10.5g

So, you can remove the grivory scales and weights and add the micarta scales and still end up with almost perfect neutral balance! The grivory scales and all three balance weights are 85.5g and the micarta scales are 88g so you end up very close.

Have fun.
