I was sitting around waiting for the traditional Thanksgiving Day squirrel heads to roast up and thought this would be a good day to make up a new khukuri sheath. Much to my shock, I found that I was out of cardboard. I do have a surplus of weightlifter's belts and a little cutting and gluing produced the sheath in the scan.
Best wishes to all for a happy T-day,
Bubba

Excellent job, Bubba! I'm certain that the sheath will work well since the leather is 1/4" or better thick. I am disappointed that you didn't use the buckle to make a chape for it ;) :p :D !

When I saw that post about the squirrel's head I called to see if I could get a flight to FL today but nothing available. Guess I'll just have to stick to the fried flies and rice.

Nothing at all wrong with a good leather sheath. Bubba did you put a welt on each side or just let the leather stretch over the blade?
The sheath I made for the Chainpuri as forged blade I finished has about 5-7 layers of 9-10 ounce leather as a welt on one side and IIRC 3 on the other side.
Definitely has to be drilled for sewing when they're that thick.:)

Yvsa,
The weightlifting belt leather is approximately 1/4" thick. I used one spacer piece about 1/2" wide to provide necessary blade clearance on the cutting edge side of the sheath and a double thickness on the other side. I copied the Randall Knife style sheath by folding the belt loop portion into the the inside of the sheath and replaced about 2" of the spacer material in the process. The entire sheath is glued together with five minute epoxy. I will drill and sew it when I get the chance. In the mean time, I tried to pull the leather apart and the glue is stronger than the leather. :D Uncle Bill, I would have liked to share my T-day feast with you, however, I felt that I should share my meal with the truly unfortunate. :( In this spirit, I gave the left over heads to the one-legged dancing girls in tsimi's cave. I did not forget about the researcher and left him the unused squirrel parts so that he can continue his important research without leaving the cave for snacks. ;)
