Weights of Different TGLB's ?

Weight of a knife is always something that is significant for me. I often carry a knife as edc on my property to protect me from all those vicious 'Skippies' that regard my property as a holiday resort - well maybe I just look for an excuse just to carry a toy, I meant knife. My present carry is a Sarge-7 and that is close to the maximum limit, weightwise, of what I like to carry all day on my belt. In other words, weight is a significant property of I knife that I take into consideration (together with many other features) when buying. I have a TGLB on order. It is one with competition finish and black paper micarta handles. I love the appearance of this knife and it has many features I like and am considering buying another with a different combination of blade finish/handle colour. The main concern I have however is that one thread has a G10 handled TGLB weighing in at 500 grams which is quite a bit heavier than my Sarge-7. My question: does the type of handle material affect the weight of a TGLB much if at all. As I understand it, paper micarta is lighter than canvas micarta which is lighter than G10 but what is that difference in weight. I would also love to hear from those who own TGLB's as to whether 500 grams is the typical weight of a TGLB because I thought they were lighter than that and supposed to be closer to the weight of the Sarge-7.

A person in this thread quoted a TGLB with a coated blade at 463 grams, not sure if they measured or quoted someone else's specs: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/973314-Busse-Team-Gemini-Light-Brigade

Busse stated the TGLB is over 7 ounces lighter than the original TG. If weight is a concern, you may want to look into getting a TGLB-M on the exchange if one becomes available or when the Busse shop starts producing and selling them.

Good luck.

It seems there could be quite a variation in the weights of the TGLB. The thread with the weight at just under 500 grams was http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...-first-real-BUSSE-a-TGLB-Compared-to-some-kin. I could live with a weight of 463 grams - but just. I have greatly reduced my blade collection over the last 12 months only keeping quality blades and hence my interest in the Busse blades. At the moment I have all sized blades covered in my collection except for the 7 to 8 inch blade size and I do love that blade size if only carrying one knife. Above that size range I have a Busse Basic 9 (can't say enough about how good this knife is and it is reasonably lightweight for its size) and below it a Mission Titanium knife (also a great lightweight knife). The only knife I have at the moment in that 7 inch to 8 inch size is the Sarge-7 which I do like but for some reason I find the TGLB shape very appealing. I put that down to the TGLB being more a Rambo knife style. I know that sounds stupid but that movie started me on my knife collecting many many many years ago and I still watch it regularly. I know I should grow up, but hey, I am at an age now where I no longer analyse why I do things. I simply do what I like doing. I have the mandatory wait period before I receive my TGLB on order and I intend buying one more busse and at this stage it will be another Sarge-7 or another TGLB. To be practical, I should wait for my TGLB on order to come in but I am not the most patient person and I am sure others would empathise with what it is like waiting for a Busse to arrive home. Could I ask another question - is the TGLB as good as the Sarge for cutting/slicing in the kitchen? Certainly the blade shape would appear to make that a possibility.

Glen, I have both the SARGE and TGLB, I don't think you will notice the weight difference on your belt.

Where are you located mate ??

The TGLB would be just as good at slicing etc as long as you keep a keen edge on it. The only drawback I would find on the TGLB is the front guard hangs down a bit lower than the SAR designs, thus getting in the way of putting the entire flat edge of the knife on the cutting board. But, I just chop, slice etc. at the edge of the board and it's all good. The Team Gemini's are a pretty stout design too. The handle is significantly different to that of the SAR designs, and the blade tip is a fair bit thicker.

Hey you're not too far from me! I'm thinking about having a Busse Knife Knerd get together sometime. Perhaps even a Bovine, Beer & Busse session at my place.

I might put a call out to see who is interested.

I went for the TGLB because of the aesthetics as well. Once I got it, I was impressed with how BIG it is compared to what most pictures would have you believe. I've learned that it isn't a great slicer due to how thick the blade is, and it's not a great chopper because of how light it is (I use "light" loosely). BUT, for "Jack of all trades" use, I can't think of a better knife.

Here's a picture to show the true scale of a TGLB (don't hate on the girly brew)

I've recently received my TGLB in G10/comp finish. I found it to be lighter than my other Busse's of a similar size. In fact, I was surprised at how light it was and some friends of mine commented that it was deceptively light. For that reason I agree with Cypress about it being more of a "Jack of all trades", rather than a heavy duty chopper type that you'd normally expect. It sounds like just the thing you're after. I got the optional Spec Ops sheath with mine which is also very light weight. That might be something to consider too.

Chris.

I had a couple of Spec Ops sheaths left over after I significantly reduced the size of my collection recently. I agree they are a very good sheath and fit my Sarge perfectly. It's good to know they also fit the TGLB.
