Today there was a torrential downpour as I was leaving work, and I had no umbrella (and a kilometer walk to the bus)
However, with a little help from the old brain, a solution appeared...
Take some 1" thick corrugated cardboard, and stick an SmF in it as a handle, and you have yourself a handy "knifebrella."
It worked out rather well. :)

So, what are your "Weird Knife Uses" you care to share?

I have been known, on occasion, to use the spine to scrape lottery tickets.

I have used a knife and a section of cord as a plumb bob numerous times (Spyderco knives are great for this).

I have also used the pocket clip as a paper clip/paperweight on windy days when working the registration table.

I think I'd rather get wet!:D

You can get umbrellas with handles like broadswords or katanas. Easier to stay dry and you can still freak people out.

Cool! :D

I wouldn't have gone the "knifebrella" route, but it was pretty much the heaviest rain we've had in a very long time.

I trim my fingernails with my knives, it's kinda strange, but I've got to were I totally prefer it. It took a bit of practice, and with a steady hand I can leave them neatly trimmed.

Whenever I go to the gas station to refuel, I always manage to find the pump with the broken trigger stay. So instead of standing there the whole time gripping the trigger, I simply slide my knife (in the closed position) perpendicular in between the trigger and the trigger guard and....trigger stays depressed.

I actually thought about taking a picture of it to post on the forums but then thought it would be stupid. But now that I think about it, a thread with pictures of all our little "Macguyver" moments would be pretty cool. Stabman...I would have loved to seen a photo of that makeshift umbrella, lol!

I've heard some of the larger Spydie holes can be used as bottle openers but can never get it to work for me. I think that just means I need to buy larger knives :D

The strangest thing I've ever done with a MK2 Kabar was when I was working some of my beehives and realized I had left my hive tool sitting on one of the hives at the previous location (5 miles away). The sheath wouldn't fit into the thigh pocket of my bee-suit. Ended up using a rachet strap as a belt.

Pretty much every knife of mine that has a pocket clip has been used at least once to hold a book open or hold paper down. Aside from that, I've used the saw on one of my knives to try to make Lincoln Logs (I was 10... didn't work out too well).

I measure parts of my knives and remember them so I can use it as a makeshift tape measure if the need arises. Serrated blades work quite well for this, if I remember correctly I have one ka-bar I don't EDC anymore that has a 2.5in blade, 1in serrations 1/8in per serration, 1/4in drilled holes in handle, 1/2in lanyard hole going off memory. I used that knife for awhile so I am familiar with it's characteristics. It actually works quite well for a quick measurement when you don't need to be 100% precise but close.

I had to use mine as a clothes hanger the other day on a camping trip. I was changing into water wear and had no where to hang my shirt, so out comes the Izula, slam it into the tree bark, and viola, a hanger.

IIRC, one of the members here a few years ago started a thread, after finding his wife/gf using one of his (closed) balisongs as a "personal massager" if you know what I mean.

May be worth a search to pull that thread up. :D

That was Charlie Mike IIRC.

That's a good one!

Spyderco Military: I was trying to use my hand to pull a metal hook out of the wall and I was too lazy to go downstairs to get pliers and too lazy to go upstairs to get my Leatherman so I used the spider hole on my Millie and placed it on the hook and pulled it right out.

Emerson Super Commander: I'd heard that one can use the Emerson wave to open a bottle of beer and I was frustratingly unsuccessful at using my cqc-7, Commander, and Journeyman -- none of their waves would latch on to the bottle cap. When I got to my Super Commander, it latched on and I successfully opened a bottle of suds.

No need for any special sea tires to open a bottle. Simply use the spine of a closed folder to hook the cap and pull it off.

From the hagakure:

There is something to be learned from a rainstorm. When meeting with a sudden shower, you try not to get wet and run quickly along the road. But doing such things as passing under the eaves of houses, you still get wet. When you are resolved from the beginning, you will not be perplexed, though you still get the same soaking.

For as long as I remember I have slept with a fixed blade (sheathed of course) under the pillow. I got used to the pillow support it provides for my neck. I cannot sleep right without one, and my arthritis will act up unless I have the right neck support, a fixed blade will do fine for neck problems.
