weird metallic sound under the hood

Been noticing such a sound in the front part (presumably under the hood) of my '97 Honda Civic. Really notice it when I pull in, getting ready to stop, and when stopped, lightly revving the engine and letting go creates the sound.

Any clues before I go to the mechanic and embarass myself?

Sounds like the same issue I had with my Subaru WRX.
All it was ..was the heat shield vibrating. :p
 
Definately need some more details about when it happens. The "light rev and let go" helps and makes me wonder, but tell me more about the "pulling in coming to a stop" part. What type of RPM range does it happen at? Is it consistant or variable? Does it happen in gear as well as in neutral? While moving and stopped? Is it speed dependant?

Hmm, thats a lotta questions. Maybe too many for now.
