Weird nail issue from checking for burr?

Haha, i don't know if it's actually from feeling for a burr while sharpening, but it seems like likely cause. I've worn my thumb nail thin, or at least it feels so. It's so thin it mushes trying to open a SAK. It's just down the center, where i rub the edge on my nail and i can see a pink trail where it is. My nail had a hump in it for a while but it's flattened out a little. I've resorted to using other nails now lol, i'll wait it out and see if it clears up. Anybody else have this happen before?

Milk and Vitamin E... My wife has weak nails, she takes a multi vitamin and vitamin E and her nails are doing fine. If she goes off them, they get thin and chippy. Hope it helps.

But it's only happening on the part of the nail i check for burrs on like every few days and all my other nails are strong as hell lol. That's why i'm wondering because all my other nails are really thick.

I'd think you could test for a burr in the same fashion, but on a relatively soft piece of smooth plastic (something like Delrin comes to mind). If a burr were present, I'd think the soft plastic would 'grab' it in a fashion similar to your fingernail. Might save you some wear & tear.
