Maybe someone can help me with this: I am going to try and upload a picture, but for now:

I have what looks to be a lockback. It has the release, like an LB7.
Now, here is the catch: the release moves just a little, but you cannot fold the blade, because the space where it would fold into is filled with a steel bar, looks like a backspring.
The tang is stamped "Napanoch Knife" with "NY" underneath it.
On the reverse side, it says "Pat'd" underneath it says 1-22-07
The front bolster has two pins in it, side by side, I am assuming locking the blade.
The scales have 3 pins.
THIS one, has me baffled. Perhaps someone took a second and some parts and made a fixed blade? I cannot really tell what the blade form was originally, it has been sharpened to a point like a toothpick. Blade is 2.5 inches, body is 3.75 bolster to bolster. Also, the two pins that are side by side are in a rather deep indentation, i.e., a ball milled slot.

Anyone have any ideas, I would like to know what in the world this is.

thanks in advance,

Ulster, That's a mighty tough one to figure our without pictures, especially in the case of Napanochs. It certainly does sound like a "project" knife though. Does it look similar to this NYK knife? Note the lock bar above the shield:

BTW, that's NOT my knife (I wish it was!!), borrowed it off the web, hope the individual doesn't mind.

Hi Eric:
yeah, I know it is tough without pictures, but I do not have a subscription, so I cannot post any, (and things are tough around here at the moment, so there is no extra for subscribing presently)

No, it doesn't look anything like that. it is wider at the base bolster than at the blade end. there is no waist in the scales, they are wood. no shield.
It is almost tapered like a sleeveboard, only not so much.

I looked at it again this morning when I was taking pics of it, I think it is something someone made up from parts, or a second that was kept out of the garbage.

Thanks,

Ulster,

If you would like, you can send me pics through email and I would be willing to post them for you as long as that is not against the rules. I don't think posting pictures for someone else is, but I hope someone corrects me if I'm wrong. My email is chuck_mathes@sbcglobal.net

Hey Aggie:
Thanks, I just sent them to Eric, don't know if he will post or not, or, like you say, if that is allowed. I took pics of all my schrades, Napanochs, a Kent from NYC, and a couple of no names. Not good pics, but pics nonetheless. lol

Ok, Ulster, I'm not having any luck with saving your pictures to my hard drive, I think the problem is that the pics are all linked together in the e-mail. If you could separate them, I think it'll work.

In the meantime, I did figure out what the knife in question is all about. Napanoch made a tool kit that featured a handle that a number of blades and implements could be inserted into. Ulster has the handle, I believe with ebony or black cell. covers, that has a very well worn blade in it. ( I think if you depress the lockbar, you should be able to pull the blade straight up and out). Here's a couple of pictures of a recent set that went off on Ebay. This particular set has bone covers on the handles, but everything else is the same:

He's got a bunch of nice Schrades as well, as soon as I get them sorted out I'll post 'em:thumbup:

yep, that would be it. I do not have any of the tools, but such is life.

I will resend the photos as attachments, see if that works.
thanks
