weird pattern after normalizing

Hello!!

I got this pattern in this 1095 blade after normalizing it, or well, trying to normalize it. I actually left it for like 2 hours at 1650 F. I guess this was the reason, but, any idea of why this happens?

Yes, you blistered the steel. It looks like a lot more than 1650, but even that for 2 hours will create a lot of scale and decarb. Soak overnight in Ph down solution and grind clean the next day. It should be OK under the scale/decarb.

I agree with Stacy. Looks like higher than 1650. That is serious decarb and too much time at that temp. Did you do thermal cycles after that? If you did not, you will have really coarse grain in that blade. I would use it as a test blade to break and see what is inside.
