Today I was across the street in the swamp lands of Florida.
I decided to take the straight handled battle mistress, and used it instead of a machete since it was freshly sharpened to a razor edge.
I used it for clearing jungle paths and making a shelter. I then decided to hike down to an old logging road where a bridge crosses pablo creek. I got to the bridge and started looking for fish. I saw a small catfish and a small sunfish. Both were caught in a net(not a fishing net a discarded constuction type net) and were thrashing wildly. I went over to a 12' maple tree and cut it down with the BM, limbed it, and with one swoop reached in to the water and pulled the fish and the net to the bridge, cut them free with the BM, and let them go. I have to admit if they were big enough to eat they would probably be sizzlin' right now:D Anyway I hacked, cut, and pryed for two hours and of course the knife is still sharp. ;)

Those timber stories make me want to move. These darm Maple trees in Illinois hardly ever get bigger than 6'. I have a hard enough time handling a 6' pole anyway, guess I'll just stay here.

Or maybe you meant 12' tall, not 12' diameter........

yeah, I agree...we need more Infi in Action Stories...I'm
a hypocrite...too many of mine are in the safe////

I can only speak for myself, but I suspect that I am not alone. Isn't it a shame how little time we really have to use our knives? I get out on a hunting trip and use them or maybe an occasional camping trip but by and large they are safe queens. I'm bringing the infamous Satin Jack to a pig roast in a couple of weeks, (just to make sure I get my share of the pulled pork), and have one with me in the truck but maybe this thread will encourage me, and others, to get out their and tough love those babies!

Yeah Dennis, the tree was twelve feet tall, and maybe 5 inches wide. just a sappling;) There are a few cypress trees over there that are truly HUGE!! And I've been to the california redwoods. I mean the trees are close to ten feet across (in diameter) by far the largest trees I've ever seen in Florida. Theres Also a lot of wildlife out here. Yesterday I saw six turkeys, a large buck, fish, birds, a hog and more. Nimrod, all you have to do is move into a wild area and you can use your knives in the woods everyday if you want:D
