Weird Wedge I dug out

I found this one back when it was warm enough to work in garage. It came out of a DB I found. Is it a wedge or something somebody found on barn floor and used it?

I'v never encountered one of those myself, but i think that they were used quite regularly 'back in the day'.

I've seen numerous pictures of those here in the axe forum. Never seen one in person, though.

Wow, that's a pretty fancy wedge. It's surprising that they would make such a complicated design for such a simple task.

It looks as if it would be easy to hang on to while striking it with a hammer. Safer for finger nails.

I think the little tab would make it easier to pull out if you had to tighten up the fit of you handle on the head.

never found one myself. were they used by mostly one company ??
