I plan to go to the Arnolds next weekend to compete in the stick fighting divisions. This will be my first tornament. I have a couple of questions that I was hoping that my fellow stick fighters might help me with.
1. I've trained for combat but not for sport, so the point system is new to me. I'm hoping to do well, but realistically, I think this will be a learning experience, and hopefully a time of comrodery with fellow fma's. Does anyone want to help give me some idea of how to score well.
2. Another, maybe more important question concerns equiptment. I don't have the official WEKAF head gear or jacket. I've been trying for the last couple of weeks to find a set in my size, etc. with no luck. There's a posibility that a teacher from another school will send a set to the competition with his students to sell to me there, but I'm not comfortable with using new equiptment for the first time in a competition....ie. no break in period, nor any getting used to it, etc. Does anyone know if it will likely be accepted at the Arnold Classics if I bring my own homemade eqt. ie. padded catcher's helmet, and judo gi with pvc plastic block outer layer. It has the same coverage and I believe should protect as well as the WEKAF stuff, with no advantages. Just less visability than wekaf head gear. I don't want to spend hundreds to go, for room, etc. to be unable to compete.
3. BTW, does anyone know of a good reasonably priced place to stay, hotel/motel, etc. The one student in my class who is going is taking his wife, so I don't have anyone to share the cost of a room or suite.
