> The GEC 151113 Charlow from the Robert Thomason's giveaway!
Welcome Home, and Congratulations! You got Charlies Gabon Ebony, my favorite.
> African Blackwood? Ebony?
African Blackwood is used only on the 153113 and 153213 Sheepfoot Charlows,
Gabon Ebony sourced by Charlie on the 15xx13 (second run) spear and clip blade charlows,
Macassar Ebony sourced by GEC on the 15xx12 first run Charlows in spear and clip
the first two numbers, 15, means the frame pattern, the next number is blade type (1 is clip, 2 is spear, 3 is sheep), then number of blades, then the year made
eg 153113 is a sheepfoot single blade made in 2013, another example 152112 is a spear single blade made in 2012
there is no serial code for handle material, I only know from following the convesation in Charlies "what makes a good traditional barlow" thread
working from memory, the second run, (2013) charlows offered pen behind, gabon ebony, red sawcut, and tan soupbone, none of which were offered in the first run (2012)
Charlies Walnut, GEC smooth bone and GEC black soupbone, and African Blackwood, were only offered on the 3rd run, the Sheepfoot charlows.
