Purchased a few weeks back, but wanted to wait until the sheath arrived. Welcome the TOPS Steel Eagle 107C-XX with a custom Kydex sheath from 7 Rattles Bushcraft in AZ.

So far, I could not be happier with this knife. The "XX" denotes the Mini Eagle neck knife contained in the handle. I admit, at first, it felt a little gimmicky, the whole "knife inside a knife" thing, but it's actually turned out to be quite a useful little tool in the field.

I'm debating on whether or not I want to strip the black finish off the blade or keep at as is. I may also inquire to TOPS about ordering JUST the sheath for the Mini Eagle to carry as a neck knife separate from the big guy. Depending on the fit, I may also strip the scales and wrap it in paracord (so many decisions, so little time).

The sheath is a great fit, and it was an absolute pleasure working with Kent. Within two days of ordering the sheath, he emailed me with progress pictures, gave me a few options as to what could be down with the portion that is now a thumb ramp. I had the sheath in-hand in less than 10 business days (just in time for my vacation in the mountains)

If I had to do it again, I would forgo having ordered the BladeTech MOLLE Loks for it. They're a great product, and I can definitely re-purpose them elsewhere, but for the width of the sheath, it requires a width of three MOLLE straps, and the side of my pack only has a width of two. No big deal. A little paracord and some creative knot-work and it's as secure as can be.

I look forward to giving this knife a solid beating in the field. More to come.

nice pics, well written thoughts and that small knife...cool!
Hope to see you putting this beast to work!

I am curious if the ridges created by the knife in the handle would cause hot spots and blisters under usage.

As for using the large knife without the small one in the handle, I don't know if I could honestly suggest using it like that.
That large gaping channel taking up near half of the handle length would lkely be severely detrimental to ones safety and hands..

It isn't my particular taste in knoves, but if you enjoy it, congrats! I hope it works well for you, I just want you to be aware of any future potential issues.

Thanks man! It really depends on the size of your hands. I have average sized hands, and if I grip the knife with my index finger over the little ridge in the handles, the bottom of my hand doesn't even touch where the cutout begins. The handle is a little over 6 inches in length. I'll post a few pictures in a minute.

are you in the field ?

Not presently, no. I go camping, hiking, or rock climbing a couple times per month, so it's seen some use already. My next outing is in a couple of days. I'm taking a week off to go up to Grandfather Mountain here in NC. Driving up at the crack of dawn Thursday, do some solid hiking and fishing, then check in for the Highland Games up there. I'm also camping at the campgrounds for the Games, so I'll be out and about in the early hours. Lots of land to explore up there :D

Sorry for the double post, here are the pictures:

Almost no risk of blistering or hot-spotting on the handle. Not for my hands, anyway.
