Tornado passed over my house about 10:30 PM tonight.

That's some scary stuff!

Trees down everywhere - on cars, houses....

Gas line busted...

Power out (except for me... )

I'll see if I can snap pics in the morning...

Yup, you bet it is!!!! Hell it's scary when one is a mile away when you can hear it roaring!!!!
Glad y'all are all okay and safe and sound. Relish having the power, we get a little blow up here we, and the six houses north of us are without power and often times for hours.:(

Be sure and check your roof for any blown off or loose shingles. If you had any hail with it then be sure and get on the roof for a closer look to see if there's hail damage, can't always see it from the ground.
The best time to file for homeowners insurance is right after a storm, don't wait two weeks to report it.

Yep...ours is 100%. No damage whatsoever. But probably 6 out of 10 houses down this street have large patches of roofing missing. Shingles scattered all across the place.

I did a quick sweep round the block to survey the damage...no people hurt...mostly houses, cars, trees, power lines...

One guy's porch had been lifted up and dumped in the neighbor's yard.

Thankfully, no mobile homes in my area...

Word on the street/news is that the tornado hit a local airport, "bounced" and psuedo-landed on my neighborhood. Tore up some businesses pretty good, but most the damage here is minor/cosmetic.

Nothing like the movies....(thank goodness!)

Be careful, Dan, and watch out for flats- roofing material has nails in it.

Take pix of everything for insurance.

the worst part actually is that I'm now a danged insomniac!!!

loaded full of adrenaline....I'm sure once I run out, I'll drop like a fly and sleep like a baby...but it sure ain't happening anytime soon. :(

We first heard the tornado siren around 10:00

I lean over and tell my wife that should we need to move quickly (all the boys are asleep, by the way) we could hunker in the bathroom by their bedroom (no windows). She says, no, we should go for the laundry room (more central, but longer haul with the kids). This goes on..........

In the meantime, we're watching the news...as the storm is headed right for us...one tornado already on the ground (outside Gentry, where knifemaker Tom Krein lives)...

Storm starts to turn more northward...

About 10:30 the wind starts kicking up....hmmm....it's getting louder...

I head to the boys' room to gather kids...and there's hail pounding hard on the window and it sounds like jet engine outside. Adrenaline kicks in...:o

Off we go to the laundry room (wife wins....:p) where we wait it out. 10 minutes later, it's gone.

I go out to check things out...

Right now, it's calm and peaceful outside...slightly breezy...that's all. You'd never know we just had a storm.

Funny thing...on Saturday morning I got a sunburn working outside, yet by the afternoon it was hailing....

Crazy stinkin weather we got here in the Ozarks!!

Yep. Insomniac.

I had a tornado nearby the trailer outside of Big Horn Wy, It did just sound like a frieght train coming.

I'm up because I'm still thinking of the 4 thousand dollars the car dealers took.

Let it go. Sleep.

And if you figure out how to do this, explain the procedure to me so that I can do so as well.

;)

Being born in CA I learned to deal with-earthquakes!!! if any remember the eastbay quake in '89 know this:I was right in the middel of it!

Dan keep yer head down!

Yesterday morning I was making my morning rounds at the hospital I work at. At about 6:15AM we got a call about a tornado touching down in the neighboring county that was heading our way. We got all the patients out into the hallway and waited 10 to 15 minutes until the all clear was given. The tornado didn't came near us but it was still a bit unnerving.

Glad that karma was good to you during the ordeal, Dan. Take care and hope you get to sleep soon.

Bob

Glad you're ok Dan! Smoke and prayers for the ones that weren't lucky.

We have a few here in NC, but nothing like where you live.

water, light, blankets, MREs or equivalent, crank or battery-powered radio, candles/matches, waterproof slickers or jackets, airmattresses stashed in basement or your hidey-hole, OR one of SteelyGunz' Tornado shelters, soon to be available in your area.

edit: Oh, and some games for the shop elves.

Oh yeah, and a khuk to wave at the tornado as a threat.

I know nothing about cell phones, but maybe one of those, as well.

I'm terrified of tornadoes because of a similar experience during my childhood. Glad you're OK Dan.

Glad you're ok, that could have sucked a whole lot. Might want to think about locking your cutlery away in a foot locker or something, if you don't already. All that sharpness flying around could definatly ruin someones day.

Glad you made it out OK, Dan. I'm right there with ya. We had one or two sighted. THe big thing around here today is the flooding. I'm going to have to go 10 mile south of my way to get around it. We have a creek that cuts through the city that is never all that full. It runs about 20' below a small bridge on the way to my house. That road is now closed this morning as it has lapped over the bridge!
Just think, REAL tornado season is still a few months away. Time to check my supplies:rolleyes:

That's exactly what I was thinking. Imagine if a tornado grabbed my desk and all the khuks. You have chopping blades flying at high speed. Don't even want to think about some of you with the "wall of khuks"
