Welder for automobile welding?

An arc welder that small will be very hard to control. I would look for a mig set up for auto type welding. I assume you are talking about auto body.

You really should use tig for auto body. But, that's more expensive. I have used cheap mig setup (harbor fright has one) successfully but not ideally. It works. I am about to replace mine with a better Lincoln or miller setup and with to 220v (due to new shop having the ability). That one setup will work for auto body and some heavier metal (think frame type work). Again, not ideally, but I don't have the money, room or knowledge to keep all different types of welding capability around.

Long story short, for auto body not professonally, to have option for other work, I would get a mig.

I think you came to the wrong forum, not saying you won't get help here (as you already have), but this is Bladeforums, not Carforums or Welderforums ;) :D Honestly I'm not trying to be rude, but since you just joined and this is your very first post, I figured I'd point it out. :)

I didn't see it was his first post, but for members i understand. Very varied membership here so much easier to get an opinion than joining a new forum to ask a question to probably get told how to use search.

Being first post, might be trying to sell the linked welder lol

Moving to Gadgets & Gear, this is nothing to do with building knives or the like.

I just picked up the Eastwood 175 MIG too, and couldn't be happier. I was sick of local exhaust shops hacking up my exhaust (full custom stainless) so I decided it was time. I have some welding experience, although it's been a while and I could use some more practice it seems to be working well. All of the welder components seem to be quality and has worked flawlessly, minus some human error.

A local welding supply shop quoted me $1400+ for a similar set-up with a Miller, after reading many reviews and some use I can't find the $900 difference.

An ac/dc with a tig attachment would cover most all your bases. Used Millers can be picked up pretty reasonably and the tig attachment added and still be under your budget.
