Welding and retempering

I have a Browning Ice Storm liner lock knife. I love this knife but hate the clip. It is attached to the liner.

The clip broke and I considered removing it and tapping for a new one but I was not sure how good the aluminum would hold the screws over time. So, I had it welded. Shortly after it was fixed it broke about a 1/4 inch from the weld. I was not thinking at the time that the welding may have ruined the tempering. Did it?

Can I fix it by heating the liner in a kitchen oven? Right now it is in pieces on my bench.

I don't think you can re-harden it in your kitchen oven unless it has a option for going past 700degrees celcius......

If the steel gets past 200degrees C, then you're going to start to ruin the temper, if you get it past a dark blue colour, then you've pretty much ruined the heat treating.

Welding ruined the temper of the liner.

A kitchen oven will not be sufficient for retempering the liner.

It'd be cheaper to buy a new one. Look at CDNN Sports.
