I have been trying to find out it is possible to weld 3V, and if so which gas, what wire or rod, preheat & cool down specs. I have Mig, Tig, stick and gas capibilities. Or a piece of CPM3V 1X3X15

Thanks Leon Pugh

yes and no
i had called crucible about this so i could weld a but on a fighting knife to use as a hammer
the thing was since you are at welding temp you end up hardening the zone and to do things right you should reaneal
then after all the harden but you still dont have a full strenth like a intergal ( that was what i was going for )
sorry but i dont remember about the settings rods or gas to try

Years ago I worked on a project welding hardened tool steel [air hardening] and we were able to do it and keep the hardness. It required preheat and post heat .Are you trying to weld a tang onto a blade ? If you are welding dissimilar metals it's a little more complex. The best is to ask Crucible .

No same metal, I have a request for large knife with a hollow handle for storage, because of the size & shape I think it might be better to build them as two componets and join them,at about the center of the front finger. I would probally taper fit lenghwize to increase contact area and retain as much of the blade as far back I as can. I may also use a large bolster designed to increae the strenth in that area. I am in the planning/design mode at this time.
