Recommendation? Welding metal to the tang

Hi , whats the best method to weld piece of metal or bolt to a through tang knife?
for metal I've been cutting V on the end and then welding other piece , for bolts I just cut out a square in the tang and insert the bolt and then weld it.
Also I've seen more complicated screw attachment with a pin and heating it so it has a little moving possibility to go in bent handle.
 
Well I close my eyes b4 pulling the trigger ,sorry for the lame attempt at humor but dont really understand what your asking since your doin it . I do it when I want to cover a pith hole in stag and the tangs not where I need it. Many ways to do this, not sure of "best".

Just weld on the extension with MIG, TIG, flux-core wire welder, or stick (I use a flux-core wire welder). Some folks braze ior silver solder it on.

Use an extension piece that is a bit wider and thicker than the tang so you have some room to grind it even.
Draw the temper on the tang with a torch immediately after the weld or you will have a brittle joint. Do this even if the blade has not been heat treated yet.
 
I recommend you cover the blade to prevent getting weld splatter on it, it can burn in fairly deep and will etch/patina differently.

I do that all the time. In a knife tang, it isn't a big deal.

Whatever the metals are, you want a sufficient amount of original tang from the blade. I like 2" minimum after the guard before I add an extension.
