*knock knock* it's the mail man... armed agent of the government and post office...
mmm... what's HE want? i'm not expecting anything...
a box. a TRIANGULAR box. with some stuffing coming out (tape failure/rough handling?). well. well well well...
as we can tell from the Title: up there... a foxy surprise. a folly. seems the very nice mistress of khukris what we call Yangdu got herself a khukri for me
yay. totally wasn't expecting this. good thing too, i might have grabbed for that one the other night...
so, no pictures yet (new job, many pains, barely had time to setup a new scanner to "fax" important documents around). the lights not good now anyway. soon my duckies, but we know what a foxy folly is anyway, so tide. first person that complains (or any), you owe me, i'll select punishments
so. it's 17.5 inches long, about 2 lbs by my crude digital scale (32 ounces give or take) - i don't have a way just yet to measure any better, or calibrate objects i own to form a teeter totter scale.
kami is the the double flag:

icon, whomever owns that now, i know it keeps shifting over the years.
fittings are silver, no cho creep, the portion of the blade near the cho is VERY thin, the spine is about 5/16 inch thick, blade is overall very thin, razor sharp, and probably a fighter, not a chopper (choppers are good too :> will get a heavy YCS or something soon).
some of the magic oil needs gumout to get that water spot effect off - i don't want to go satin finish on this so have to be careful - there was LOTS of oil - i'll use mineral oil myself, and a couple spots on the blade want 2000 grit or metal polish (tarnish). oh yes.
handle! very short, JUST fits, if i don't think about it, not QUITE my usual 5-6 inch handle preference, more like 4.25 to 4.50 inches of woode from butt to edge of bolster. mmm. good rings. monkey pod wood (we're seeing lots of that lately, i thought it was from a single shipment from hawaii and hard to find?). yah. so, surprise! pretty dark wood, can't tell about grain yet, seem similar to dark walnut that we're used to, and the grain i can see remind me of walnut shells. MMM.
i also liked the nice note and the kukri tie-pin? included attached to the note - that was sweet
so. back to the bit pits of moria, or a shower and some fresh air - i haven't been outside for ... nearly 24 hours.
