I am going to either get a Bud Nealy Cavebear, a Strider military folder (the one that the Buck Strider Tarani police model is based on) or just commission a piece from the local knife maker (the kid is good, he's about my age, and loves the "old style" knife). My question is, are knives from the first two technically custom pieces? Aren't they just production pieces made in smaller volume than name brand companies? What does a custom piece entail? Thanks again for all the help...

How did you do that? I thought most custom knifemakers were carnivores. :D

Here is my help to you. Post less, read more, use the search function to start getting yourself educated. These posts have been coming up for years, and you can see, when using the search function, what many people's positions are. Everyone is different, custom to one person, may be production to another. It isn't worth rehashing.

Best Regards,

Steven Garsson

Has more production than custom content.

247 posts in one month is kinda trollish, huh? Yeah, but I have lots of questions, and the search function doesn't work, only takes me to a screen that says I cannot access that page.

You must be specific when using the search function or else the system will get bogged down with too many results.

As far as your current question I would say in my opinion Striders are defiantly production knives. There are Custom Striders, but they run about double, if not more than the production pieces. Not sure about the Nealy as I am not familiar with that knife.

Nealys Custom all the way, the only exceptions I know of are the Nealy/CrktPesh Kabz, and the Boker/Nealy Escort Series, these are production collaborations

I was just in Buds shop last weekend it's a shop no bigger than a 3 car garage and all his blades are hand made.

CBud Nealy heck out his site.
