The CRAFTSMAN brand name for tools was created in 1928, by the national hardware buyer for Sears Roebuck, Col. Tom Dunlap (along with the National Hardware Week sales event). But this brand name was not used on knives made for Sears until 1946. Camillus made all the private brand knives for Sears from 1922 until the 1980s. See pages 47 and 74 of LG4.

BRL...

So, how does he 'splain this'n?

And this'n?

And....

Recognize this?

A Camillus Bowie Hunter? I don tink so!

Yes. And Camillus and Dexter and Ulster, Imperial, Colonial, Western and several others. I finally found a picture of the Schrade 166 Craftsman Eagle made to go with the Schrade Craftsman Eagle 41OT pattern I posted.

Did you ever wonder how many vendors made a Sears washing machine or their Fridges? I dont think they made any thing themselves. I'll have to look for a Craftman to display.
Codger, Thanks for the great look see

Here are what I believe to be three 8OTs.

The top one is a Schrade Walden 8OT, purchased from ebay. (Note that someone has ground the swedge back down the clip blade- in person it is easy to tell that this was done by a previous owner and not by the manufacturer).

The center knife is a Craftsman #9470, purchased from an ebay seller when I picked up another knife in person. I saw this one and bought it also. (Note: this knife has the 16 tooth match striker pull as the Schrade Walden 8OT).

The bottom knife is a Schrade 8OT purchased by my wife last December at a local Fred Meyer (Kroger) store.

Close personal examination of all three knives leads me to the conclusion that they were all made by the same maker.....Schrade. The Craftsman matches the Schrade Walden clip blade more closely than than the newer Schrade 8OT.

Since the Schrade Walden tang stamp was not (usually) used after 1973 and Craftsman clip blade matches the Schrade Walden clip blade I would assume they were made about the same time, i.e. 1973 or before.

Does anyone know when Schrade stopped using that style clip blade w/swedge and 16 tooth match striker pull? That might more closely date the Craftsman.

Even Jim Parker made--- er--- furnished-- some knives to Sears, although I think it was after 1980.
