Got my new S30V Millie today. I honestly can't think of a single thing I'd change on it at the moment. It's darned near functionally perfect. Very solid feeling in the hand!!!!

I hope to give this thing a monsterous workout over the next few months. :D

Outstanding aren't they?
Thanks Sal!

Thanx guys. We've worked hard to CQI that model. Making a light, reliable, strong (Heavy Duty) Walker Linerlock in the larger sizes is more difficult than it might seem. We have great appreciation for those acheiving the goal.

We're currently testing a black one (DLC coating from Darrel).

Sorry Harry, but I must disagree with you. I really do think that the S30V Millie might be the best folder on the planet period, not just production. :D :D :D Spyderco has this design refined to the point of perfection, and the manufacturing quality is superb. I love my old 440V Military, but this new version is exceptional in the extreme. If the S30V steel holds up to its name, I may be through buying folders…. At least until a new version of the Military comes out.

I also picked up a green Salsa for the wife. I’m in good graces with the wife today. She absolutely loves it!!!

:D

Buzzbait,

So, I'm guessing here.........your new Military isn't going to be tossed into your tackle box and neglected like your first one?

;)

While we are back on the S30V Millie subject........Buzz, I was wondering what was taking you so long to get a new one. :D :D

Does your new one have a torx head pivot screw or hex head? I believe mine was one from the first batch out. Mine has the torx head and was wondering if I had a S30V with the eccentric pivot, or if all the S30V's had a "standard" pivot.(Sal?) I have been too leary to dissassemble it to fine out.

Does torx head = eccentric pivot?

Edited for clarity

Hehehe..... No, my Military is not being relegated to the tackle box. It's going to become the fishing knife, the home utility knife, the work knife, the steak knife, and perhaps even the gardening knife. I really want to put this baby through its paces over the next few months. I’ll be throwing a little bit of everything at it, seeing if I can find a kink in its armor.

I really did want the new version of the Military for a long time, but there was only one problem. I couldn’t manage to kill the old one!!! I did my best, but the darned thing just wouldn’t give up the ghost. I even accidentally ran over it with the lawn mower this summer. The knife is pretty close to indestructible. I finally gave up on killing the old one, and just ordered up the new one.

My new Millie has a few noticeable changes. First, my new Millie has a hex head pivot. I don’t care about hex/torx one way or the other on a screw of this size, which isn’t meant to be fully tightened. I might have an issue on a smaller screw, but hex is fine on this one. My guess is that you’re right about hex equaling standard pivot, and torx equaling eccentric pivot, but can’t say for sure. The G-10 slabs are noticeably thicker on the new model, and also have a more aggressive friction pattern. Both changes to the G-10 are big pluses in my opinion. It looks like the cutout in the G-10 for the lock bar has also changed, but I’m not sure why. Then there’s that whole Earth thing going on with the S30V blade. And last, if I’m not mistaken, it seems as if the new blade is ground thinner than my old model. I’m not positive though, as the bevel on my old Military is far from its original bevel. The old one may just be ground down a bit, and thus thicker at the edge.

All in all, I’m a very happy camper!!!! :)

You know...I thought the handles seemed thicker!

You know......I do not own any Spyderco products, not one. Mostly out of ignorance on my part, which has slowly been changing since finding BladeForums.com. Anyhow, I have been puting together a list of knives that I would like to have.
Mr.Glesser's active involvement has also impressed me....it really has.
Along with the many positive things being said about Spyderco products by forumites.

All of these factors has placed Spyderco permantly on my list. I live in the country and generally like a little bit bigger folders.....not huge elephant hunter jobbers like the Cuda Maxx though. Just ones that will lock solid, are durable, can handle a multitude of cutting tasks, don't break the bank and can be comfortably EDC'd.

Thanks mostly to Buzzbait (you fiend), I'm strongly leaning towards the new Military. Been considering the Impala, ATR and Endura Lightweight as well. Out of these choices.....whatcha think, the Military?

Sorry for being so long winded.

Mike

Get the Military, no question. It's my favorite Spydie, hands down. Light, thin, strong, good steel and a useful blade shape - what's not to like?
