Well I hate to say it but I got some bad news this morning and there’s no easy way to say it..... It’s very apparent that I’m gonna have to have another back surgery.

I had a nuclear bone scan about ten days ago and saw my neurosurgeon this morning to see what it told one way or another and it’s very evident that something bad is going on with my L-4 to L-5 joint again. The bone scan although similar to an x-ray showing the skeleton structure and some of the organs such as the kidneys in my case they show up heavily inflamed areas as white spots and from the back and sides both my L-4 to L-5 area shows up pretty much as a solid bright white, not good, but does show the reason for all the heavily increased pain I’ve been having for the last few months.

The bad part is that my neurosurgeon isn’t going to know what exactly is going on there until he opens me up and looks.

I won’t get into all he said because obviously I have to wait to get clearance on my heart problems, which shouldn’t be a problem because I spent from 10:00 p.m. Saturday night until 4:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon in the hospital because I was having trouble with my breathing and it felt as if a heavy weight was setting on my chest, let alone being in a huge amount of pain. Actually I’m thinking now it was the pain that started the problem to begin with. My primary care doc knows the amount of pain I can be in and unbeknownst to me had ordered morphine injections if I needed them so when I asked the nurse for something for the pain here she came with a syringe of the morphine, surprised me to no end! I didn’t think to ask how much was in the injection as I was more interested in getting relief than anything else but she injected it into my IV port in two pushes which usually indicates that it's enough to generate nasty side affects if it's administered all at once. "
"
A couple of hours later the pain was much better but in a couple of more it was back almost as bad as it was before and usually an injection like that will let me sleep for a couple of hours and then won’t wear off for a couple of more.
My heart group did check me out thoroughly and said the good news was that I hadn’t had a heart episode so I’m pretty sure there won’t be a problem getting clearance from them.... Then our kids are coming in over Thanksgiving and it’s been a long while since we’ve seen them so I told doc I’d like to wait until after Thanksgiving but asap afterwards would be just fine.

Anyway my neurosurgeon said if it was fixable at all that I’d probably be as good as I was a couple of years ago when I was able to walk at our local nature center. They’re not the deep woods but they’re much better than the nothing I have now.
Now if I can just wait that long. My surgeon said he would talk to my pain management doc to see about getting an increase in my pain meds along with my pain pump.
I’m really getting too old for this crap!

Hope I didn't ramble to much.

And of course I'll keep y'all posted as I know anything concrete.
