Since I had my intrathecal pain pump implanted on April 3rd, eight weeks ago I've went back and had it reset too a higher level, approximately 0.05 mg/day each time, for a total of five times, I think.
Anyway it's now set at 3.800 mg/day and my pain has greatly improved! It's not exactly where I would like it or know that it could be yet but it appears we've come to the point that we're going to have to stop and go back and assess whether I'm going to get to keep using the pump or not as my body seems to be having an allergic reaction to the morphine.

After having it implanted on April 3rd and going back on April 7th for my first boost my lower legs started swelling. I told Sheila I had an appointment with my PCP that Friday so we made an appointment for me to come back the next following Monday if my PCP didn't think it was the morphine. He didn't so I've been getting a boost every week since.
Problem is I have not been able to get the swelling down no matter what I've done and now since I had the boost last Tuesday my upper legs have swollen drastically!
They've gotten so bad that right now I can squeeze my thigh for 30 seconds and leave two deep indentations that takes several minutes to come back out!
I've been on the Internet all day searching to see if the pain pump could be causing my swelling using different search terms and when I finally figured out to use doctor terms and entered, "Could Intrathecal morphine cause peripheral edema" I found my answer, which was a resounding, "Yes!"
And I found the answer on several different websites which confirmed it was indeed so.
I printed the pages so I can show them to my PCP when I go in Monday to see where we go from here.
I know there are other meds approved for intrathecal use and I'm hoping desperately that one can be substituted that won't cause the peripheral edema.
If not I'll probably have to go back on the oral meds and I really don't want that....

Smoke would be greatly appreciated!
