I am trying my hand at sword making....

This is going to be a kind of fantasy fighting saber thingy....

I forged it out yesterday and took a file to it lastnight. It is very rough right now and I'm not sure where I'm going with it yet.

Whatchathink?

I would not want to be hit with that.

How's the balance? I see it can be used two-handed, which is good for a big hunk'o steel like that.

I also wonder how you're going to handle that point (what the grind will be like at the point).

Overall ... I rather like it. It seems vaguely Eastern to me.

Looks good so far. Is it distally tapered? That's not so important in knife length blades, but really affects the balance and handling of sword length blades.

i think i want to take that out in the woods and kill some orcs!...or hack dead trees..

Very nice. How are you going to finish the handle? Will it have any type of guard? I'm looking forward to seeing the finished work!

Neat design- don't know if I'd call it a saber, but I sure wouldn't want to be on the wrong end of it!

Can't wait to see it finished.

Looks pretty wicked ! I like the way you can wrap both hands around her, swing for the fences !

Your Uruk-hai blade work is nice looking. ;) :D

Very nice, man.

Can't wait to see the finished product.

Sal

If you forged in a heavy taper towards the edge it will cut well I suspect as is. I have recently been experimenting with lightly sandblasting the scale off, and then running a wire wheel over it... comes out exceptionally shinny, and much better looking than black scale.
