Hello to all CRK fans!
I went ahead and did it. After weeks of reading reviews and multiple trips to and from the knife shop, I got my first Chris Reeve knife, and I just wanted to say how impressed I am with my new Sebenza!

I got my Unique CGG Large Classic 2000 about two weeks ago and it hasn't left my side since! Sorry, I don't have the means to post a picture right now.

The workmanship is excellent and the blade flat out cuts! Previously, my EDC was a Microtech SOCOM from back in the days when they had the really nice polished edges. I have to say that the Sebi is just as sharp, but IMHO, the edge geometry is a little better than the MT. I thought the MT was put together well, but the Sebi is the epitomy of precision manufacturing. My friends are blown away by the fact that this knife can be taken apart and put back together without affecting its performance!
I have been carrying it around (sans the lanyard) in a cordura sheath at the bottom of my pocket during work or clipped to my pocket at other times, and it carries well in both modes.
Thanks for hearing me out!
I'm thinking wood inlay next...
I also have to mention that I must be one of the luckiest guys out there, because my wife is actually okay with the purchase!!!!!

Aloha

Nice wife! Congrats, you are doubly lucky to also have a local store to go to!

I lived in Hawaii when my dad was stationed there in 63-65, I have a feeling that the island might have changed a bit since I was there?

BigHonu,
Welcome to the forums and welcome to the ranks of "The Sebenzanistas". (I still say we need some kind of shirt that says that.) You're exactly right regarding the "cutting". I guess it has somethng to do with the BG-42 steel and the grinding of the edge, but my Sebenza is a month old and still can shave hair off my arm.
About that sheath you've been using to put in your pocket while at work. I ordered the calf-skin pouch (soft as butter and tough as nails), and also the nylon sheath. I'm rather impressed by the nylon sheath. It has a "button down" and not a velcro flap, it's very thin (so it would go into your pocket very well), and has belt loops for vertical or horizontal carry. It only costs $10.50! It's easily the best ten dollar sheath I've ever seen. CRK sells really nice accessories that do NOT seem like afterthoughts.

Hey big turtle,

Howzit going?

Nice to see another hawaiian w/the love for the sebenza. Where did you get that thing, locally or what?

That guy Gary Graley can make you a really nice sheath for that knife.

Aloha,
Jeff

Thanks for the replies!
Will.223, thanks for the info on the CR sheaths. I already have the calfskin one (it came with the knife, and looks great!!) but it doesn't sit upright in the pocket of my pants. I think I need a sheath with a flat bottom. I was going to order the nylon pouch, but I will wait until I need something else from CRK (maybe a wood inlay...

). The postage to ship things here would have been as much as the pouch

Or a G2 sheath would be really nice!

By the way Gary, the island has changed just a little since '63-'65

, but still the same Aloha spirit.

Hey imp, the store I go to is PowerEdge. They have a small selection of small CGG Sebs and only one or two large CGG Sebs.

Aloha

I'm glad to here you like your new Sebenza so much BigHonu. I just got my first Sebbie yesterday and I am also very impressed.

Thanks John!
Glad to hear you finally got yours!
I read about your agonizing wait, and I would not want to have to go through that.
I can't put my Sebi down...open close, open close....man the action and lockup is sweet....do I have a problem or what?!
Aloha

Welcome aboard!

You definitely do not have a problem!

Unless, of course, you thought you were only going to own one....

We must be the next generation of "Sebenzanistas". Now I gotta start saving for the next one.

There seems to be a lot of this going around but I'm picking up my first Sebenza tomorrow afternoon and I can't wait.

For years I've always carried a cheap Schrade three blade folder or a Wenger SAK. However recently I started to get back into Backpacking...well during my search for gear and related stuff I came across Doug Ritter's www.equipped.com and learned about the Sebenza.

I'd lost my usual carry knife in the laundry a few weeks before this and had replaced it with a Kershaw one-handed opener however I quickly became unhappy with the chisel blade and the tanto design. I decided I needed the best I could afford and find so I located a guy with a brand new Sebenza for sale and by 6pm tomorrow my Kershaw will be retired.

I can hardly wait.

I can tell you that once you get one, you will want more.. My first was a a large cgg fly, then I got a DIW Wood Inlayed version, then I purchased a unique small, a cgg trailing moon, and I just received my first plain classic 2000 (polished not SW) a couple of weeks ago.

I am looking for more. I am actually willing to trade customs for them. I am going sebenza crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well my deal went down and I got a brand new large plain Sebenza for $290 and I love it. It was the first really good knife I've ever owned and the difference between my old Kershaw and the Sebenza is really amazing.

I was also pleased to find that the #2 hex head I had purchased to go with my Leatherman Wave tool adaptor is the right size to fit the screws on my Sebenza.

And you're right...I'm already thinking about my next one.
