Emerson Commander after watching a 2012 Shot show with Mr. E. The guy makes sense to me. The interview lasted 30 minute, answered many question I had about Emerson's, and I watch it three times already.

Now my only question is SERRATED or NO SERRATION'S?

Did you get a 7 and now are looking at the commander or changing your mind from ordering a 7 to a commander?

Either way both great knives and I'd sell every other knife I own before letting go of mine.

Now beyond serrated or plain edge:

Micro Commander
Mini Commander
Commander
Super Commander
Uber Commander??

Alotta choices!!:D

All of my Emerson's are plain edged....that is because my primary purpose is not one of utility. I carry a mini leatherman for utility tasks. If you are going to use your knife as an everyday utility knife for any and all tasks, I would go with serrated....if your purpose is parallel to mine, go plain edge....

My .02

I have two CQC-10s, one in plain blade and one in serrated. I much prefer the plain blade because it's much easier to sharpen. A serrated edge is easier to cut some things with, but a plain edge will cut those same things with a little more effort. If you're the kind of person who doesn't sharpen their knives that often, then the serrated edge will always cut.

Plain edge. You can sharpen it with lower grit and make it a courser edge for a lack of a better term. Sodt of like a micro serrated....but im exaggerating to make a point. To me a plain edge is more flexible...more useful. Course that's me and you are you. What makes sense to me might make no sense to you....so if you like a partial serrated knife get it.

^^ nailed it

I have 3 Commanders and I prefer the serrated one. It is more useful for the tasks I use it for. So I don't use the other two PE ones that much.

Emerson's combo edge is second to none!

I honestly think the Commander looks goofy without serrations .

I just love the grind on the Commander but, I think that the Journeymen is the best candidate for edc jobs. Just my two cents for what it's worth.

Ernest says serrations and I actually prefer my Journeyman and Super Commander to have the combo edges. I use them for work and around the house/yard/property. I find them to be quite useful.

However, I like my 7AW with the plain edge -- it's a smaller knife and the lack of serrations on it works for me. I've mentioned this before -- in public, the plain edge is much more sheople-friendly in my neck of the woods.

If you're getting a Commander, I would recommend serrations. Remember with sharpening -- the Commander is a recurve blade so it will be a bit different than sharpening a straight, plain edge blade.

Did not get the CQC 7, and it will be a Commander. Need to sell a couple of other Knives i have, and thee is a Gun Show Sat. So I may go, and try a little peddling for some cash.

I have a BT and BTS Commander. I use the BTS model way more. For my uses, I use 2nd half of the blade most of the time (curve to tip). If I am going to cut rope or need serrations I use the belly. On other models I like a plain edge but I do most of my slicing with the curved part. The serrations stay nice and sharp that way. Your cutting tasks may vary but its what works for me.

You're in a great spot as either way would be a good choice:thumbup:

Let us know what you get.
