After giving up TV completely, except for my occassional honey time at my honey's house, I went and signed up yesterday. For over a year I have been able to work with the radio in the background. The radio gives me pretty much what I need except for the getta-way since its easy to keep working when all you gotta do is try to keep your hears open. So anyhow, I am real anxious for the first three movies. Call me weird or old school but here is my first three: (I can't spell Frenchie so I'll do the first in translation) the original "The Miserable" (with Anthony Perkins), "Day of the Jackel", and - of course - Mel Gibson's "The Passion of The Christ". After those the very first on my list is "The Seven Samaria"!!!!! The other two of the that next batch will be my Lady's choice - no doubt horror (yes) and love (yuk).

UH, time to buy a DVD player I suppose.

Cool! My battle axe and I love Netflix! I have "What the bleep do we know" coming next, and I'm looking forward to "The Blind Swordman: Zaitoichi" and a documentary called "Shaolin Ulysses: Kung Fu Monks in America." The great thing about Netflix is you can take risks with what you're watching. If you've never seen "Memento" do yourself a favor and put it at the top of your list. You'll love it.

Yeah, after watching Memento about three times and seeing more every time I finally bought it. What a movie... Not for everyone though.

Roger if you haven't seen the Passion yet, I'd think you would want some private time planned for afterwards. I haven't had the courage to watch it a second time yet.

All the zatoichi movies are great and it's a big genre that stretches out forever. There's a whole slew of samurai movies to watch. Keep your eyes peeled for Ran; that's another I just keep watching. The armor is unbelievable... Seven Samurai is fantastic! Wish I had time to watch a movie today, that would be the one. There's one taken off the comic series Lone Wolf and Cub but I can't remember the title of the movie. Badass ronin pushing a baby carriage. That guy is like the ultimate swordsman...! I have every (English) number of the comic run and have been trying to find the movie again ever since I saw it on IFC.

We watch and read a lot of horror around here, and my son and I have a special affinity for zombie movies. We missed an opportunity of a lifetime this weekend, a local movie company was taking all comers for extras as zombies in the current production. We were both just too busy to go. :( I've been feeling sorry for myself for days... I think a middle aged fat man and a skinny dreadlock kid would make a great father-son zombie combo. :D Oh well, next time.

Have fun with the movies Roger! Keep us posted how it goes, I've been thinking about signing up too.

Roger,
NetFlix is pretty cool. Be sure to rent "The Hunted", so you can see the WSK.

Shaun of the Dead is cool, if you like zombies. Falls apart at the end a bit, though. I like "28 Days Later" for zombies. Zombies that run really fast are much scarier than the loping slow ones. We have "What the Bleep Do We Know?" and I'm pretty excited to see that...

Shaun of the Dead is hilarious! The remake of Dawn of the Dead has speedy zombies too and it has some seriously harsh scenes; a great zombie movie. 28 Days Later just scares the bejeezus out of me, there's nothing I can do about it. Between that and the Dawn remake there have been a couple of nights I couldn't sleep comfortably - and they're just movies for crying out loud... :D

Did Bleep measure up to its hype?

Didn't watch it yet. We chose "Sideways" because we were in less of a cerebral mood yesterday, I guess! :D It was good. I like Paul Giamatti or whatever his name is. He really showed his skill in the movie "American Splendor" which I loved, but he has the depressed, miserable, life-couldn't-be-any-suckier routine down pat! I'll let you know when I get through Bleep.

I thought American Splendor kicked ass. I went out and bought all Pekar's stuff after the movie and it's great. Haven't read Our Cancer Year yet but it's coming up.

Sin City is great too! I've seen it twice so far and it was even better second time around. Don't think I've ever seen a comic book done so ideally on the screen.
