I chipped it in two places today when I chopped up my boot, must have hit metal.:eek::eek: :o:o

I already fixed it, but I guess it's really broken in now. :D

Keep it up Ank and you'll be hang'in out with 230. :D:D What do you wear steel toed boots or what!:p

Is that the original edge Ank? The reason I ask is perhaps it was over heated when sharpened. So maybe just the edge was prone to chipping while the rest will just do the famous INFI roll or denting. So maybe a fresh edge will fix that.

my nmfbm looks like a hacksaw right now. It has no cutting edge on the last 1/4 of the blade and is flat in a lot of spots. Still havent sharpened it. I wont sharpen chips or dings out as the only thing they effect are newspaper cutting in a large chopper. Just wasting steel.

Edge damage happens. Put two "nicks" on my NMSFNO, right on the sweet spot. Took a lot of work with sand paper to somewhat fix it. Still pretty sharp but the edge doesn't have to be perfect when you use a knife for batoning kindling of strips for a smoker.

I have rolled and dented many an INFI edge hitting nails, embedded rocks and what not but I can't remember an actual chip. Anyway, you fixed that bad boy up nicely so no worries.

Thanks guys, it's all fixed up now, I removed enough steel to freshen up the edge nicely without removing too much. :)

The edge was the factory edge just dressed up. ;)

It's the old " I chipped my infi cutting my boot" trick. I HATE it when that happens!

were you making boot stir-fry?

boot jerky??

boot fajitas???

If the top pick Ank is the edge restored there appears to still be a "tear" in the edge as you move from left to right it is the first mark on there .... if it is torn as deep as it looks I would be a little concerned it could go deeper ..... might not it be best to bite the bullet and grind out the tear and re-do the edge ?

My NMFBM has had a good few edges put on it and is a bit shallower than the original factory depth for sure .... but as you take away the factory edge you often find the Infi beneath it is able to take a much more lasting edge .... I think it might be to do with the speed the factory edges are put on the blades .... anyway .... that has the look of a "stitch in time" might save "nine" as if the tear goes deeper it will be a much harder job to sort ...... although sometimes photographs make things look bigger than they are .... but if it were mine I would sort that one out .... the others are fine and I have done similar myself ....

I didn't take a photo of the repaired edge. :D

Dents, tears or rolls. INFI dunt chip mun.

INFI tends to dent or roll, and occasionally tear if it is thinned out enough. I have personally seen INFI chip, no pushed up material or stock pushed to the side, just a chip, even under magnification. I've seen this MAINLY with the stock edge however.

I threw my NMFBM and missed, badly. My throwing area is VERY rocky, well the knife buried itself all the way to the handle through the rocky ground. I had some slight denting/rolling, a lot of flattening of the edge and two small chips, one as big as Ankersons.
