Like most SAKaholics I am a firm believer in using my SAK for duties it clearly was not intended for, and today I finally paid for it. While attempting to unjam a paper shredder in our office, my Rucksack got eaten. The shredder was so jammed that the roller blades on the shredder wouldn't even turn. Since no one was able to get the cover off we were left with the option of attempting to dig out the offending paper. Well after sawing through most of the blockage, (paper is just another form of wood, right) I was able to remove some and loosen it up enough that the shredder rollers would turn, but you still couldn't feed any paper through it. So with it running, I was trying to poke the remaining clogs down through the shredder blades with the main blade of my Rucksack. I'm sure we all know where this is headed.
Yep, the shredder grabbed hold of my SAK and attempted to digest it. It broke .75 inch off the tip and sucked the blade in far enough to leave teeth marks the entire length of the blade. But we're not done yet. When the body of the knife hit the lip of the feed area it popped the scale on the non-lock side and folded the outer liner right back on itself to the level of the pivot pin. So long story short, scratch one Ruck. I wouldn't even attempt to send it back to Vic after abusing it that way. It was definitely my fault. That knife has been my faithful, daily companion for almost 18 years. It definitely hurts to lose such a friend but at least it wasn't my hand.
I am very happy to report that the lock held and is still functional and besides the missing tip, chewed up blade, popped scale, missing toothpick
and doubled over liner, the knife is still in one piece and working fine. Says a lot for Vics.
