I made a decision to only keep and use my FIXED blade knives and gifted the two Buck 110 folding knives and the Buck '55' to my husband. I have been leaning towards and using the fixed blade knives the most now due to my hand issues.

Arthritis = “Improvise, Adapt and Overcome!”

My husband said that I should keep them but he will USE them more than me. In fact, he changed out one of his traditional folding knives and put 'The 55' in his pocket. Later on, he showed the gifts to our neighbor who likes knives too.

He went to the range today with a close friend and had lots of fun. He shot 45acp and 22lr firearms. He is an outstanding shooter. I went shooting with him not too long ago and I did not feel like shooting today. Plus it was male, macho bonding time for him as I call it!

We had a nice meal from an Italian Restaurant and we went through some more of his knives.

I put on a Clint Eastwood movie for us called THE OUTLAW JOSEY WALES which we enjoy very much even if we are Yankees. :)

I adore Clint and have had a crush on him since I was a kid in the 50's. :)

Now I have to change my knife profile here.

I am looking for ONE more Smaller Fixed Blade Knife like I have seen here (BF) and elsewhere (A local man who made a custom knife for my husband.) AND I may still get (?) the Buck Woodsman 102.

A fixed blade knife lady.

Cate, congrats on what sounds as a successful adaptation to fixed blades! I love the pocket fixed blades.

It sounds like you guys had a wonderful day; fixed blades, a little 45 acp, good food, and a great western sounds like a great day actually! ::)

All the best to you in your new cutlery chapter.

Fixed blades are my solution to days where the arthritis is bad as well. Love them and the security of such. :D

Good for you! Adapt and overcome.

Captain O

Thanks!

Here is my updated list:

Buck Ranger Skinner FB Knife

Buck Vanguard

Grohmann-Russell Canadian Belt Knife #1

Cold Steel Canadian Belt Knife

Time for a hot cup of tea now.

Take care!

Cate
PS: I think that this may be a two movie night for us since my husband is off on Monday. I am so stuffed that I did not even make homemade popcorn on top of the stove with REAL BUTTER! Now that is stuffed! Ha.

Put some Brewer's Yeast on that popcorn and get some more vitamin B12 in your sysem(s). You'll love it!

Thanks to everyone else too!

My Buck Ranger is LEGAL for the blade length in my fanny pack. I like it very, very much too!

I am looking at something a WEE bit shorter for that other knife in blade length for my fanny pack so I will check out some of the older and recent threads here.

Plus look at some websites and go to a few of our stores out here. I want to check out the knife in my hand. Personally handle it.

Cate

Sounds like a great day Cate. Hope things go well with the fixed-blades, there are so many nice ones to choose from

Jack Black,

Thanks!

I enjoy what I have been using and carrying so far in the FB knives.

I enjoyed and still love those folding knives but if they are not getting used... I know that my husband will use them a LOT. He does not have hand arthritis. He ALWAYS has a folding pocket knife on him.

I don't want to worry about a bad hand day when I have good and bad days.

Take care.

Cate

Ma'am, you are a caution.

I tip my hat to you.

Hey Cate...Semper Fi...I think the improvise, adapt, overcome is an Eastwood quote from Heartbreak Ridge.

Lots of great small fixed blade makers on BF...I've bought several.

Mike,

It IS a famous quote in that movie. Good movie too!

Plus a lot of military men in all branches say that line or something very CLOSE to it too.

My late husband (USN - Nam Veteran and all around the world. Later on, he was in the Air NG Fighter Wing (Weekends and overseas too.) and he worked at a NON .gov job.) used to have some 'good lines' that may or may not (Gasp! Grin.) be allowed here even though he was a 'gentleman'.

My late husband used to say before and after his cancer discovery, "Stuff (Or another word.) happens in war and in LIFE... DEAL WITH IT!"

He was right in my opinion too.

Cate
PS: My husband and I are watching movies and looking at the knives that I am showing him.

Battle Horse Knives have some very good smaller knives with full handles and a choice of sheaths
If you call them and tell them what you need, they will be very helpful

An example

From experience I can recommend Hess Knifeworks in Michigan, their small knife the Caper has excellent thick burl slabs making it a joy to use. Nor are they so expensive either.

On the other hand, I'm wondering if a smaller Traditional lockback such as CASE's Mini Copperlock might also be an option? Very easy to open or close, the lock is very easy to disengage. Mass of handle choices too.

Thanks, Will

there are certainly a lot of great ones around (@will power, it is cool to see how the Hess looks with some patina on it), it is certainly a temptation to carry one.
excellent movie quotes too.

Duck Childress makes some really good looking, smaller fixed blades for a good price. You can find his stuff in the knife makers for sale area.

Good on you, Cate! I carry and use the little fixed blades a lot myself. I guess I'm prepared for the day when the pocket knives become a problem for me to open. I've been lucky so far.
