Ordered a BU10238 "Bill Lowen" trapper.
At the price, I could not resist. (under 12 shipped)
Supposedly it will arrive at the office in a couple days.
With a wee bit of luck, I'll make it to the office in a couple of months.

This will be my first full size trapper. A good one to start with, I think.

That's big slip lock folder. Made in the off-shore contract. You must like the Wharncliffe style blade. DM

The fish shield and "fishing hook" bail don't hurt, either.

If it is as good as my 371's and 389 (I've no doubt it will be. No matter where it is made, Buck does not sell junk.) I'll be a happy fish hunter. (lets face it, when you go fishing, you're hunting for fish, right?)

I had to look it up. That is an interesting pattern for a serrated edge on the wharncliffe blade.

Bill Lowen / Hooked on Fishing series exclusive to Smoky Mountain. Smooth bone scrimshawed handles with nickel silver fish inset. They do one every year. These are contest knives. 10 knives every year will have a gold fish instead of nickel silver. If you get a gold one there will also be a certificate in the box to win a bunch of fishing gear. Kinda like the Willie Wonka contest.

Do you know how many different models there have been?

I've come up with 7 so far. I think the 389 Canoe was the first. Still digging. Looks like I have the all except the most recent. Need to fix that.

389 Canoe
382 Trapper
386 Large Toothpick 2012
383 3 Blade Trapper 2013
387 Big Fishpick 2014
374 XLTrapper 2015
377 "Go Fish" Teardrop 2016

Yep. It arrived at the office (in Ohio) on schedule.
Naturally, I'm in upstate New York for the rest of this week, and probably next week. Borg Warner has a lot of short haul freight, going to the Ithaca plant. :)

2013 Smoky Mountain catalog cover says the 383 3 Blade Trapper is the 4th release. That would make my list of 7 knives in the series correct. See list in post #9 above.

Anyone know if this large trapper will fit a 110 sheath?
Supposedly it is 5 inches closed, so should fit?

374? If memory serves, I first saw it in one of the 2015 SMKW catalogs. The model number is BU10238.

Yep. A 374. I finally made it back to the office.
I was not expecting half stops (a nice feature, IMHO) Both blades are sharp out of the box, the serrations are finer than on most bread knives, keeping the blade sharp, not like a dang ripsaw.
Fits my nylon 110 sheath, too. :)
No blade wiggle, no gaps, etc. I give it a 9.9999

Going to be carrying thissun for
a while
