Well, I guess this was bound to happen...

2 years ago, I sold a GEC Dixie Stockman in Natural Stag when I was hard up for cash after my wife’s car accident. It went down as a knife I really regretted selling.

Over the past year, I tried replacing it. I even offered up a hard to get 81 Abeline Stockman as a trade, but I couldn’t get any bites. I bought and sold a ton of GEC’s, but the right 82 never popped up.

I heard, through the grapevine, that GEC was doing another run of 82 Dixies, so I postponed my search. I ended up buying a few from the 2018 run, and ended up selling all but one gorgeous stag handled knife, but I really missed the inlaid shield and the slanted bolsters of the original one. I decided I was being silly, and looked past these differences and considered myself lucky that GEC actually repeated a run of the slow seller I was looking for.

Then, a Dixie popped up on the exchange. It was like new, stag, shield, slanted bolsters- it was perfect! Exactly like the one I sold two years ago.

Well, I took it out of the tube today. Turns out it WAS the one I sold two years ago.

I guess when you buy and sell as often as I do, you’re bound to double-dip.

Awesome! I’m glad she came back to you!

While the lack of shield doesn’t really bother me, I agree, the slanted bolsters look much nicer on this knife.

Awesome! Is it in the same condition as when you originally had it? Shame on you if you let it go again! Haha!! Also, was it a matter of not letting it out of your mind the whole time that you are sure it’s the same one?

Colin, that is so cool, a very similar thing happened to me about a year ago. I sold a Tidioute EZ open Whaler in ebony here on the sale forum a few years back. Regretted and almost immediately went in search of a similar knife. About a year ago I found it on the bay, and I mean I found the exact one I sold here:thumbsup: sometimes, things come around again;)

Ha ha should have told me that’s awesome. It must have went from you to Jeff to me then back to you. That’s cool. We just rented it for a bit LOL

I literally didn’t even realize until I took it out of its tube. I scoured my old photos to see if I was imagining things, and sure enough, it’s the same one!

Yup, still looks unused. I briefly spent some time away from slipjoints after I sold pretty much my whole collection, but when I started trying to rebuild, this was high on my list. And it’s serialized, so no chance it’s a doppelgänger.

Yup- it all went down exactly like I planned it! Now to hunt down that Kauri Wood 57 Whittler... this Dixie and that Whittler were the last to succumb to the purge.

Beautiful slipjoint! would you be interested in selling it? Kidding;). Great story

Name your price. ;)

I just love it when a plan comes together, congrats. Preston

Just shows it's a small world of Traditionals:D Some years ago I got a Schrade Walden (new model) from the US, liked it then a member liked it so I gave it to him-back it goes to the USA from Finland. Then he gives it to another member back here in Finland! Boomerang:D

But that Stag is superb, the first run Dixie Stockman were the real thing, shield, slant bolster and mostly top Sambar. The recent ones in Stag didn't attract me, GEC made an error when they stopped inletting shields on Stag.

Great to hear your knife is back where it belongs

Thanks, Will
