i just screwed my chiruwa AK up cuz i was throwin it at trees (wich i discovered can be done :) and it bounded off and hit a rock chipping hte upper portion of the blade about 3 inches from the top. its small, olmost a cm...

what would be the best way to repair this? if at all possible...

i tried using the 'chakma' to smoothen it out so at least the ding would be in contour with the remainder of the blade if that makes any sence, to little effect.

in addition, what would be the best way of making the metallic portions of hte handle 'tactical' meanind 'not shiny?'

specifically, the guard, the tang portion of the blade on the handle, the tang button thingy and the brass portion of the scabbard.

what i had in mind was taking some burlap or green cloth, wrapping it around the butt of the handle, and securing it with 550 chord (green chord Marines use for everything) around the remainder of the handle...

suggestiong would be appreciated :)

There's tomahawks for throwin' :)

You can take the shine off the handle parts- horn and metal alike- with steel wool. I prefer the 000 fine stuff.
You can also do the whole blade with it, or etch/blue the blade.
If the chakmak is too small or too soft to straighten out your khuk, you can use a large steel or a file if it won't align.
Then sharpen her back up. And don't throw it :)
You can buy the $20 cheapie Atlanta Cutlery ones for that, they're softer at the edge.
The Chiruwa AK is too good a tool to be flung around like that.

I bent the edge of my old kukri on a nail  ,and I did almost completely repair the edge without losing metal. However, it is risky and don't blame me if you try it! I actually took a small hammer and very carefully dressed the edge back into line, and then resharpened it. This will either work really well or if the steel is too hard a piece will crack off and you'll be in an even worse position than you are now.

Good luck!

Don't throw khuks? But I've gotten to the point where I can stick my 18" AK in my tomahawk target . . . it's fun. ;)

some brass ahmmers may actually be made for such a thing. Finish with Nicholson miniature files or stones/sandpaper.

There are stories of Gorkhas throwing their khuks for lack of a better game to play.

There are also verified stories of Gorkhas charging with khuk in right hand and pistol in left hand.

Neither action seems particularly sane to me upon reflection. Probably why so many Gorkhas are around to tell the story. The insanity is too unexpected by the enemy.

I guesss I'm a get the h*** out of Dodge type given a choice.

Dremel tool can sharpen the chip...
who knows, continue on and make the 1st serrated edge Kukri :D :D

If the edge is actually bent I would take a small ball peen hammer and put the blade on a piece of railroad iron and tap that bent out very slowly. Then go on and sharpen the khuk and it should still be good enough for a user.:)
