I just finished making some stainless washers for all of my benchmades that didn't already have them. Luckily it was pretty much 2 and 2 for the sizes (705 and 940, 750 and 721) so I could do them in batches. I bought 18-8 washers online from BoltDepot and McMaster that were approximate and then used my diamond stone to get them to the right thickness and nice and smooth. Went through a few dremel bits reaming them out to the proper ID. Now that I now exactly what size and thickness I want them to be - I can probably source some that are closer in dimensions to make the process les time consuming.

All in all it was well worth it to spend 4-5 hours making 4 sets of washers. With Militec - these are all super smooth and have absolutely no bladeplay.

thats it. :)

Can you tell us the logic you used to choose stainless steel over bronze?

I was always under the impression that bronze has a far lower coefficientancy
of friction than SS and was less prone to galling.

I don't see the advantage of making SS washers???? Phosphorus Bronze washers are perfect, they get smoother with time, don't rust, Most people prefer them over anything else out there.

ss treated with militec will rival phospher bronze while being stronger, corrosion resitant etc. phospher bronze doesn't like militec as much as stainless does. there is a reason the osborne 770 uses them - its SUPER smooth - better than any of my other BM knives.

check out the balisong guys - some of them use ss washers with militec and love it.
