Just read a ton of stickies over the last few days and figured I'd get me the entry level grinder and make a few knives. Here we go... wild ride into having too much stuff in my already cluttered shop! Looking forward to learning more and sharing progress.:)

I intend to do just that, James. Thanks for the reminder. My dad's version would have included "Stupid" at the end... ;-)

I suggest sticking with the classic styles.
No filework on the spines, small makers mark.
Just good clean work.
Master the basics before trying for a style of your own.
Just my 2 cents.

Contrary to what you might think from viewing James's avatar, you can not get a good heat treat by sticking a knife in an electrical outlet. That's just an urban legend.

pfffffft... quitter talk. Giv'er man! file work, laser Damascus, flashlight in the handle... try em all out! lol. I kid, I kid, make sensible knives and get good before going off buing too many mammoth tusks. although don't be scared to try whatever you want. who cares if they all don't turn out perfect. ya learn more by messing up than by playing careful all the time.

My Dad said it that way too, but I'm trying to be friendly :D

What?!? I've been doing it wrong all this time? :(

we're teasing, of course... I have my HT done by the pros at Peters.

I started out as just a collector, buying from budk when i was 8-12 then switching to quality factory knives from 15-present and now at 22 making my own knives has taken over most of my interest. ive got a decent shop set up and enjoy it
