I bought the GOALRILLA brand with the NBA size backboard and the motor that raises and lowers the goal from 7.5' to 10'. The posts are huge (8" by 6") and the whole setup delivered was way less than my local sporting good store has the nonmotorized version for on sale pre-sales tax.

Now to dig that 48" deep hole and install the bugger!

I don't get the whole thing about rims that raise and lower. Everyone plays at 10 feet. If its for kids I don't think it helps their skills by starting them on a lower hoop. If they are too small to get a full sized ball up, get a junior ball. So my question is why the adjustable rim?

Actually not everyone plays at 10 feet. The 6 and 7 year old leauges play at a shorter height (not sure what) but they do.

In reality of course I also lower it down and let my 11-13 year old Scouts do the occasional slam dunk.

Whose a purist? Not me, it is just there to have fun.

Plus, My son pulled a great one. Put the rim at 10'6" and practiced foul shots.... challenged one of the older kids and killed him at it.

Sort of like setting up the horseshoes long or short.

Really, thanks. I was not trying to appear snotty with my question, I apologize if I came off that way. I did not know you could put the net higher than 10'. I also did not know that 6-7yo played at a lower height. Now I am not sure what to think. On the one hand I would think if a younger kid practiced on a reg. hoop they could easily adjust to a lower one. On the other hand, it is a lot harder for a younger kid to adjust when they are used to practicing one way. So I am not sure which is ideal. I do think that playing at a lower height might hurt them when they move up to a regulation basket. I dunno, just some thoughts I was having.

No big deal. One more purely practical item. This unit is 477 lbs delivered and I used 10 80 ls bags of sakrete in the base. The pole is 8" by 6" and vey heavy. the NBA backboard takes several people to lift it. To install it, you lower the thing to where it would be 7 feet high and carry up the backboard and attach it. It woul be nigh imposssible to attach it at 10 feet!

Thats sweet. My daughter plays bball quite well and I'm thinking of adding another hoop at the far side of the driveway so we can play"full driveway";)

Ah the which height controvesy. The younger ages do play at a lower height and I was against that at first, feeling that they have to play at ten feet sooner or later,so start them at it.But form is most important and that is learned better if you keep the basket height in proportion too their height.

I had a blast helping coach her team this year.An all girls team in a co-ed league,we beat teams with 10 boys and 2 girls:p ,it was quite funny really,we had coaches telling us we could not fastbreak, coaches that tryed to stack their team at the end, they could not stand losing to girls.I loved it.:)
