BK-9 was already a favorite of mine out of all of the Beckers. But now, this new development has put it on a new level.
I'll let the pictures do the talking this time:
Tried mirror polishing the grind with some Autoglym but it didnt quite work out as well as I had planned because I didnt sand it down. Im sure if I used a belt sander and went to 1000 grit it would be as shiny as it is on the edge.
And lastly, I boldly tried to convex my edge on the 9 with my Edge Pro. Let me just say that it was not easy, but once I figured out a technique it wasnt so bad. The pictures dont show it quite well. Essentially I had previously sharpened the blade at about a 18 degree angle on both sides. But it was a flat bevel angle edge. All I did set the Sharpening Arm about 6 degrees lower than the lowest red marking and I started to take off the shoulder starting at 120 grit. Once I got rid of the shoulder I sharpened lightly between the two bevels and formed a curved edge. Its not entirely convex, but its the best I can do until I can get some water stones. Anyone got any ideas on how to take better pictures of convex and bevel edges?
Chopping feels quite nice, although the handle did slip on me the first time because I hadnt properly tightened it on both sides. It is a much slimmer grip than the grivory handles. I like it personally. It feels more comfortable in my hand. But thats just me. I have medium sized hands. Its also much grippier than I thought it would be. All in all, it was a little high on the price side, but the fact that it fits so well to the blade, and that it comes with all the hardware and proper instructions to mount on BK2,3 as well as BK-5,7,9&10 made it worth it. It shipped fast as well, so Im a happy knife knut : )
