work sent me on a trip from ontario to our sister plant in georgia. before i left, i looked around the site here for what knives you could and couldn't carry. i didn't find anything about carry laws in georgia, but there was a few comments about confiscation at the airport. even in checked baggage.

one site member (can't remember who) said don't take anything you don't want to lose. luckily, i followed this advice. the airline in question lost my whole bag, in which i had packed a broken old p.o.s. sak knockoff.

i was a little upset at not having clean underwear to change into, but work paid for a quick shopping trip. my work boots were nicely broken in, but they'll be replaced as well, all on the airline's tab. all in all, there was nothing of any great value or sentimental attachment lost.

spending the week without a knife sucked, but it could have sucked a lot worse. so, pack your bag like you may never see it again. at least for air travel.

I'm happy to hear you didn't lose something (knifewise) really nice!
Sucks about your bag though...makes me afraid to bring anything of any value on a trip at all

I fly a good bit. I carry on my bag whenever possible, even though it precludes taking a knife. I refuse to put anything in a checked bag that I would be upset to lose. The airlines do a pretty good job but I don't like having my "stuff" out of my control.

Glad you made it back, and that the airline is taking care of you. I had a trip recently, and took the same advice you were given. In the end, I would have rather brought a nicer knife, but I got to bond with my Buck 110 instead which worked out nicely. Now I'm taking it on my next camping trip.

That sucks! It would be one thing if the knife was taken but a whole different story when they completely lose your entire bag! Glad it is all working out!

^^^Hahaha, true - worst winter I can remember in over 30 years! But I still drive (even to the Upper Peninsula - when the bridge is open, that is!).

yes, it was a productive trip. saved the company some time and money, and we all made it there an back safely. that's the main thing. the airline has a check in the mail for the replacement things. definitely could have been a lot worse.

I went to Costa Rica in Jan,and just took a SAK but would hate to loose it! I've taken that all over the place! Once in Baja I was the only one that had a beer opener so was real popular that trip. I was not aware they would confiscate a knife from checked luggage? Which airline was this or where? I take at least a beater with me everywhere and really would hate to loose even one of those! My son lost a nice Kershaw I gave him to the TSA guys about a month ago on an early morning flight! :-( then one of his Co-workers did the same thing and the TSA guy told him---see that thermostat on the wall?I will place your knife on it and if it's there when you return you get it back and if not to bad!!!-- got back and the knife was there!!!! Some guys are lucky I guess?

i'm pretty sure i would have heard about it if there was a confiscation from my checked baggage. they either lost it, or some dude "lost" it because he forgot his work boots that day and couldn't afford the time off to go home and get his own.

didn't have to open any beers. the boss's boss's boss was buying. but opening coffee packages first thing in the morning was an ordeal.

i don't travel much, but why don't they have lockers like the bus stations? have the security check you out, anything objectionable can be locked up until you get back.
