I dont have any knowledge when it comes to the carry of brass knuckles (they dont actually have to be brass but as a general term to sum everyone type up). I am just going to guess they are not legal to carry in any state as they dont really lend any practical purpose other then the defense. As far as states concerning this, what are NC, SC, and VA out look on this item. Again I see know reason why one would need to carry them, but I was asked about the laws on it recently, and I had know idea. Hoping someone can give a synopsis on this item. Again I am just guessing it is illegal.

I would GUESS that there completely legal. I see no difference between hitting someone with brass knuckles or hitting them with a tire iron. It's a non lethal self defense weapon. I assume it's acceptable.

... I assume it's acceptable.

I wouldn't. Dunno about the states mentioned, but illegal here in TN for example. Matter of fact, I'd opine that knuckles are illegal in at least as many states as are switchblades, maybe even more.

South Carolina actually has them as legal to carry "unless they are used with the intent to commit a crime or in furtherance of a crime." This qualifer is extended to knives and other weapons as well. SC passed a series of laws recently that makes the action the crime, not the item in and of itself (as all weapon laws should be if you ask me).

SECTION 16-23-460
http://www.scstatehouse.gov/code/t16c023.php

In NC, they are legal to own and keep, but illegal to "willfully and intentionally to carry concealed about his person."

§ 14‑269
http://www.ncleg.net/EnactedLegislation/Statutes/HTML/BySection/Chapter_14/GS_14-269.html

In Virginia, they are illegal to possess entirely. This law is written in a tricky fashion, in that it technically makes them illegal to sell or offer for sale. But it follows this with a statement that mere possession alone is considered automatic "prima facie" evidence of intent to sell.
