When I was 12, I had only two knives. (Boy that feels foreign.) On one November day the family went out to go Christmas shopping. Usually not the most enjoyable activity for a 12 year old boy that would rather be out in the woods, or reading a good book. However this day was different. I had scraped together $20. I was going to buy a shiny new Victorinox Cadet. I had seen my father use his Victorinox Super Tinker, and my grandfather use his little Classic for years. Now it was my turn to carry on the tradition. We went over the mountain to a bigger town, (ah rural life), and went to Target. I bought that little silver knife through my mother, and boy was I happy!
Like I said, I would have rather been in the woods. I have always loved what I would later learn was called bushcraft. So this dainty little folder got drafted into building shelters, carving bow drill sets, cleaning fish, peeling apples, cutting rope and a host of other chores. I even learned to baton with the knife. Cut me some slack on that one I was young and less experienced.
Even after I got the Caper for Christmas two years later it always sat in reserve. When I broke the camper after it fell 15 feet out of a tree, the Cadet went back into service. The Hunter that I was given rode in the pocket for about six months before I realized that I liked the small little knife better. So the Hunter now rides in my hunting and bushcraft packs.
Even my phase of only carrying one knife would not keep the Cadet down. For the past year I have been carrying it nearly constantly.
But five years of hard use has taken its toll. The blade is about 20% gone, it is scratched and dinged up pretty bad, and it is just time. So, as a present to myself for graduating Homeschool-Highschool a semester early, and getting accepted into Bible college fulltime, and completing my first year of Bible college online, I ordered a brand new Victorinox Pioneer. Hopefully I will be happy when it gets here, and I will get many more years of use out of it.

Well done Ben, your Pioneer and His Eminence will be your companion for life.:thumbup::thumbup:

Congratulations on both your graduation and the acceptance into bible college! Yes, you deserve a bit of a celebration, and a new SAK is a good one. May it serve you well as your cadet did. Enjoy it, you earned it bud!

Congratulations! The Pioneer is one of my favorite knives ever, although I think an old cross Pioneer might be better suited for Bible college. :D

Congratulations, Ben! Sounds like you earned a present to yourself.
For what it's worth, I've had a Pioneer Electrician for about 2 months now, and I love it! It's been in my pocket every day since I got it.

Charlie_K, it was simply use and abuse that had taken its toll over the years. Being 12 when I got started with her, she was not cared for as well as she should have been. Mind you I was a responsible 12 year old with great care for knives, just not the same way that I do now. I guess the old cross might be nicer, but I have a Buck in my pocket at all times, so the whole Bible-knife thing seems covered. :)

Here Ben, let me "tempt" you....... >:| :D

Oh, why did you go and do that? Maybe a moving to Bible college present?

Sorry brother but I'm just backslidden enough to need that SINful knife as a reminder of the many "old crosses" I bear. Getting you hooked on OC ALOX would be no favor. :D

Thanks for your post Ben, I enjoyed reading it very much. Congrats on Bible college and you deserve to treat yourself.

Please stop back and post pictures of your Pioneer once it arrives if you would:thumbup:

A huge congrats on the new Pioneer you have on the way and for your success this first year of Bible college. As said, pics when it arrives and a pic now n then "in action". I have a silver and a black Pioneer and LOVE them.

Thanks for sharing your SAK story of growing up with one. I enjoyed reading it :)

ASAP. My camera connector cord escapes me, so it may be later in the day than planned. But rest assured, I will be taking several pictures.

Congratulations on your accomplishments. I'm sure that Pioneer will serve you faithfully. I have been carrying mine almost everyday since I got it this past summer. Best to you on the next step in your education and God bless.

Looking good, Ben! Nice pics :thumbup:
As I said in another thread, that pegged cross is great!

...and the time has arrived. Thank you so much Ben Harris for this crucifix which I will always treasure. I will have my Monsignor bless his cross this Sunday.

Benedicam tibi et domui tuæ, dicens: Dominus bonus est Christus, et semper.
