After spending the last 6 years in an unrewarding private sector job, I finally decided to throw in the towel, and resign. Traditionally, taking a blind leap is not advisable, but the local market is near dead, and job hunting while clinging onto this thing was not going to work. What can one do these days with a couple of college degrees and 20+ years of professional business experience?

I don't know if this move will prove liberating or fatal, but at least it is bound to pump some excitement into an otherwise frustrating problem.

Best of luck, Sir. Job hunting is not pleasant, but it's quite doable and the economy is getting better nationwide. I lost my job in June of last year and had another one in about 3 months. It's hard work and psychologically demanding, but when you see that light at the end of the tunnel, few things compare to that reward.

Wish you the best.

I'm gearing up to seperate from the military soon.. kind of nerve racking because I keep hearing stories like this. One can only hope for the best.. I know some people who are staying in school for their masters because they just cant get a job with what they have (and I think they are afraid of leaving school :D)

Good luck on finding a new job!

Congratulations on your bravery and pluck. A thousand wishes for success!

Of course, you might have to move someplace where the economy is showing some sign of life.

I hesitate to say this, but my oldest and dearest friend has spent 2+ years looking for a permanent position. BUT ... he is an upper-level executive, and those sorts of positions are nearly impossible to find with the current state of the economy.

He offers an excellent piece of advice: make finding your next position your full-time job. And that is, after all, what you are doing.

Oh, my buddy? Overseas right now in a temp position, but making SERIOUS bucks while doing it.:D

Positive wishes for your success from the Pleasant Valley.
