So my new buck 382 mini trapper arrived, and it looks pretty good, until i notice something unusual

when the blades (both of them) are in the "half stop position" both springs come completely out of the frame. I've never seen this before in any knife. I am honestly curious if this is just a lack of fit and finish or if this is an actual problem. Its just completely new and alien to me

so what say you folks?

tried to get a couple decent shots showing what i mean...

for reference, this is the picture from the website

Oh wow that is really weird and I have never seen it before either. I don't have anything else to add that would help you in anyway but I will be watching this to see what some of the more knowledgeable members have to say. :)

I'm curious too.
I have springs that protrude in half stop position but ive never seen daylight like that.

How's the blade action? Do they have a nice snap opening and closing, or are they pretty weak?

Maybe it wont' be an issue if the blade tangs are ground to meet with them?

I have seen it before but not that severe. I don't like it. I really think it's a cost cutting situation. To get everything to sit properly, flush etc. I would imagine that there is more work involved= higher cost to the consumer. That one looks really over the top though.

Good grief! Buck just told you they don't give a dang. I would exchange it for my money, including shipping.

I just recently picked up a Buck Trio. This is how mine looks when the blades are halfway open. I'm glad I was carrying it today. Granted it's not as bad as yours, but the springs still stick out a bit. I chalked it up to the fact that it was made in China. Maybe I'm wrong.

Edit: The action on my springs is very snappy, however. The knife does feel nice and tight.

well, i am posting this over to the buck subforum...just to see what the buck folks think
action seems good so far.

I have a Case Carhartt that does that too but not to that degree. Has good snap though. Kinda rough finish. Definitely a working knife. But yeah, I'd send that Buck back.

Does that knife have half stops? If not, then what you show is normal due to the action of the tang against the spring. If it does, then it's way off. However, given how the blade is positioned, I doubt very much that knife has half stops.
