The first photo I want to share with you guys is July of 2016. Right around the time when I decided I needed something more than just a utility razor blade for my career. (Notice the awesome Smith fine and coarse sharpener) ;)

The second photo is what my collection has grown into so far as of January 2018.

I would love to see everyone’s “before and after” shots if you have them! If not simply tell me what your first “quality” knife was!

Well I have owned several quality knives, other than lower cost traditional folders, my first was probably a Spyderco Native frn bought from Wally World. My second was a Spyderco Endura 4. My first knife that costed over a hundred dollars was a Benchmade Mini Barrage.

"Quality knife" ... there's a quantifiable standard. lol
First good knife I bought was a Buck 102 woodsman when I was about 14. I still have it. However, I don't think that quite meets the "quality knife" that you meant in your question. I think I paid about $20.00 back in the early '70's. and the same knife now goes for about $50. But will still outperform others costing a lot more.

So... I'm going to say it was a Cabela's tree brand drop point hunting knife, that was made for Cabela's by Boker in Solingen, Germany. I bought it from Cabela's in the mid to late 80's for about $75 if I remember right. Comparable price / value of that knife today would be about $250 from Boker's Germany division. So I figure that qualifies as my first quality knife. It was up until the knife bug got me last year, my "always carry" hunting knife. Unfortunately I have a lot more hunting knives to try out now, with zero trips planned next year (again :() to do so. At least I got 'em when I do get to go again!

My first modern was a Spyderco Police SS followed by a Rookie G10 eight years later.

Nice start OP!

My first quality knife was a Spyderco Rescue with ATS-55 from 1998-ish. I need a reeeeeaally wide angle lense for my after shot :p

Wow, clearly your whole world was turned upside-down! (<- pardon the emoji pun, I had to.)
You should go speak to a specialist!

Glad you found something that you like, unfortunately your wallet isn't so happy.

Nice to see a couple old friends in that pic! I do miss the red XM scale.

No photos but after about 50 folders I got drunk and stumbled over to the Busse pages
Doomed from that day on

Hmmmm After I got bit by the bug when I was around 12 or so, I think I bought a cheap winchester framelock. I used it until it was literally falling apart then bought a victornox cadet and carried it forever. First really solid modern folder was a kershaw skyline. Oddly enough the knife that got me into pocket knives in general was a kershaw scallion when I was around 7 or so. I used to think it was so cool the way it would pop open with the speed assist!

One of my first High End knives was a Fiddleback Forge Custom Sneaky Pete.

It is one of the knives that escalated me to this!

Hahahahahaha! OK, you win! On a side note, I'll be moving from East Asia to your neck of the woods soon. I have a cousin that lives there already. Can't wait to drop by the shop in person, brother.
