This was an interesting knife to make a sheath for. I was concerned because the guard is the widest part of the knife. If I built the sheath for the guard then the blade and the handle would be rattling around. Here's the solution I came up with. This was mentioned a short time ago in another thread but I didn't have pics then.

This is one of my Slot and Loop sheaths. It will carry on the right hip with the knife butt forward. There is a loop on the backside of the sheath too. So carried in this position the belt goes through the loop and then out through the slot so you have two points of support. This is one of my own preferences for carrying a larger knife.

The blade is ground from very thin stock, not quite 1/16th but much thinner than 1/8th too. An old sawblade of some kind I'm guessing. Ya can see how wide the brass guard is in relationship to the rest of the knife. My solution to get a decent fit on the sheath:

Notice that for a short distance before and after the guard area that the welt has a second thickness skivved down to zero at each end. This gave that guard somewhere to be while allowing a good fit for the rest of the knife. The sheath is Wickett and Craig 8-10 oz russet saddle leather. One light coat of warm neatsfoot oil and then finished with BagKote. Whadya think? Questions and comments always welcome.

Nice solution you've come up with for a unique situation, I love the color of that leather.

I'm going through a similar design issue, this gave me some ideas oh how to resolve my issue. :D

Thanks Scott, I do too. Nichole and I were talking yesterday and I actually called the tannery to find out lead times but we'd like to get that stuff in all the different weights we use. The tannery will split it down for you but does have a couple week lead time to do so. My problem is I'm always ordering leather I needed yesterday not what I'm gonna need in a couple of three weeks, sigh.

Good deal Dwayne, thats really why I posted it. Hoped to be of some help to others. I was sitting there thinking it needs to be wider there but narrower here, so (light bulb moment) make it wider there and narrower here.

Thanks for sharing, Dave. I'm putting that little trick into my memory bank for future use.

Super looking sheath with some good design behind it.
I take it you punched the slot after it was built and sewed?

Thanks guys. Yeah Ebbtide I use a Weaver 2" punch and then lenghten it a little on the Slot and Loop sheath. Maybe 2.75-3" if I have room.

Yeah that Weaver punch is a very high quality tool. On this sheath I make the slot longer so that the sheath can ride at an angle. The loop on the backside is set down towards the bottom of the sheath and is 4 to 5 " long. this allows the owner to carry the sheath at a variety of angles, whatever is comfortable for them. On my other sheath designs that use a slot and holsters too I just use the 2" punch and make a 2" slot.
