wenger and victorinox difference?

i personally find victorinox higher quality. i feel it is built more solid, yet easier to open. i forget, but one is called the 'original' swiss army, the other is the 'genuine' swiss army.

Did I hear Victorinox owns Wenger now? Anyway, this has been debated to death and Victorinox always comes out with more support as being the better quality. Some people prefer the scissors on the Wenger's however, but I never had a problem with the Victorinox scissors.

i just bought a brand new vic deluxe tinker at a show for $25 and it is the best knife deal i have ever gotten...clean..tight..sharp as heck

yea vic owns wenger, press release said someting about the swiss cross staying in swiss hands.

There are several differences between Victorinox and Wenger.

-Wenger's can-openers are like the ones on Camillus boyscout knives, the kind that look like a hook, and don't have the small screwdriver that you can find on Vic's can-openers.

-Wenger's screwdrivers lock when pressure is applied, this is a sweet feature!

-Wenger offer's locking blades on standard size (85mm) knives.

-Victorinox standard sizes are 111mm and 91mm (there are also 58mm, 84mm, 108mm, 74mm), while Wenger's standard sizes are 85mm and 120mm (they also have others).

-The blade on Wengers is different from the one on Victorinox SAKs, it has more belly and is a hair thinner. I like it very much.

-The scissors on Wenger SAKs have self sharpening serrations and a more solid spring than Victorinox scissors. Even die hard V'nox fans sometimes admit that Wenger's scissors are better.

I could go on for ever, since there are lots of little differences. There I've heard that Wenger backsprings are weaker than Victorinox backsprings and have read about some failures, but none of the 10+ Wengers I own and use ever showed a problem.

For all your SAK needs, check out www.sosakonline.com there are a couple of Wenger VS Victorinox articles you might find interesting.

With the Wenger soldier you have a bail that you can attach a layard to. Something Victorinox shouldtake note of!

They are both great IMO. I have carried a Wenger SAK for 14 years off and on and love the scissors. They are serrated and keep cutting and cutting and cutting. I've never had a better scissors on a knife. Many Micra and Vic scissors have dulled on me and been retired within the time I've owned this Wenger SAK. Usually within a few months you see significant dulling with the other brand scissors but these Wenger serrated ones just keep going like that energizer bunny.

I also like the locking main blade and the locking screwdriver on the Wenger. I do like the Vics too though. I always have my Swiss Tool on me by Vic. What would be perfect is to have the Vic scissors with the Wenger serrations. The shape of the Vic scissor is better actually but mine have dulled very quickly in the past and they are a royal pain to sharpen correctly. (It is my opinion that all scissors are a royal pain to sharpen though) Maybe now that Vic has bought out Wenger we can have the best of both in one knife.

You're welcome. I'm sure you can find a whole lot more threads on this (and other topics) using the search function - which is how I found the links I posted above, by the way.

I lost my approx. 25-year-old Vic Small Tinker. It was my primary EDC and, though worn, served me well. I bought another Small Tinker. The bottle opener on that one was not reliable: often, it would take 3 tries to remove a cap. On my first knife, the opener always worked on the first try. Returned the new one and Victorinox replaced it at no charge. Experienced same problem with the bottle opener on the replacement. Then I bought a Wenger Canyon. It's different, but I like it. I like the thinner, broader blade. All blades walk and talk perfectly. The Wenger is slightly thinner than the Vic, is great to carry, and the bottle opener works 100% of the time.

I do like them both, but even though I found my original Small Tinker, right now, I'm carrying the Wenger.

I have 3 Victoriox 91mm SAKs; Spartan, Compact, and Tinker. I've no interest in Wenger but I'm sure their knives are good.
